Just reading this https://www.yourmoney.com/investing/vanguard-launc...

It says Vanguard has launched a new fund this week called - Vanguard ESG Developed World All Cap Equity Index fund

The Vanguard website says the inception date of this fund is 25/10/2011 https://www.vanguardinvestor.co.uk/investments/van...

That's not a new fund is it?

No mate, it isn't.

It is terrible journalism.

There's a simple explanation rather than dismissing the article as terrible journalism.

The ESG Developed World All Cap Equity Index Fund (UK) mentioned in the article is new - https://www.vanguardinvestor.co.uk/investments/van...

The ESG Developed World All Cap Equity Index Fund which you've linked is not new.

Doh! I dismissed the UK bit when I copied and pasted it into Google because UK was in brackets - thought it just meant it was on the UK site or something. hehe

165% since inception (Oct 2011) is quite impressive (to me anyway)

Cheers for the correction and link bugmenot

eta - this was the main article that got my attention of the 'ethical' funds - https://www.theguardian.com/money/2020/jun/13/ethi...

"A detailed number-crunching of environmentally sustainable funds has revealed that they have outperformed traditional funds across the board – beating them during the pandemic as well as during the 10 years up to and including the coronavirus sell-off."

I am happy to stand corrected, though the ESG Developed World All Cap Equity Index Fund has been available in the UK for donkey's years.

You are right though.

Phooey, stop reading the Guardian, it is not good for you mate! biggrin

Top holdings in the Developed fund include Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Facebook and Alphabet. Top holdings in the Emerging fund include Alibaba, Tencent, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, China Construction Bank and Naspers, Vanguard confirmed.
All of those top holdings also being found in my plain Jane, non-ESG hyped Vanguard Developed World and Emerging Markets Funds hehe

Not really sure how China Construction Bank, which is involved in the Belt & Road project, can be considered environmentally sound.
