My first generation AirPods batteries are struggling. Battery only lasts 25 mins now so i need to replace them as I use them all day at work - on conference / video calls. Probably 4-5 hrs every day for last 2 plus years.

I see amazon have AirPod 2 without wireless charging case for £126, or the AirPod pros for £205.

Given I really just use the AirPods for conference calls can anyone offer advice on the replacements ?
Should I stick with the basic model or is the pro worth the extra for my simple usage ?

Thanks

I have the Pros and love them for the much improved fit and the noise cancellation. You may not get the use out of the Pro's additional features, so possibly not worth the extra expense.

Whichever pair you go with, make sure you purchase some AppleCare for them via Apple's website. £29 for a pair of AirPods with 2 years' coverage - they will replace the earbuds and case when the batteries no longer hold their charge as well as they used to. They will also cover accidental damage, but will charge an excess (£25 I think).

If your use really is purely for conference calls then the normal AirPods should do you fine - they’ll essentially be identical to your old ones.

If you use them for any kind of music or media consumption, the Pros are definitely worth the extra imo. The fit is much better and much more secure (They come with different sizes of tip to ensure a good fit), noise cancelling both passive and active is very good, and transparency mode is useful on occasion.

To my ears the sound quality for music is better too, though this could just be the result of the improved fit and better sealing in the ear.

If buying pros, I’d buy from apple store, due to the easy returns policy,
They don’t fit a fair percentage of people (me incl) so were completely hopeless. Returned for a full refund.

Thank you for the advice. Sounds like a set of the regular AirPods is all I need.

Apple will switch out the batteries for you. The price in the US is $49 so I assume the UK price will be 49 pounds.

If you have a 2-year warranty, Apple may replace your Pods. I just had mine replaced at 18 months, holding about 60 minutes of charge.

Try that first, I started with Apple Support on Twitter and then spoke to some 2nd level manager in Germany who UPS-ed me a new pair with return UPS envelopes.
