Does anyone have experience of insuring a lock up garage which is a distance from where I live? I assume that since it is a distance (1.5 miles) away it is not covered by my home policy and that I will need to insure it separately. Are there any insurance companies which specialise in this sort of thing?

If you own the lock up and garage your own car in it, I`m sure you will be able to add it to your home policy. If you rent it the landlord should have it insured.

Thanks. I own the garage so will be speaking to my home insurer on Monday.

Holy thread resurrection.

I am buying the garage I'm renting, freehold, 20 metres from my door, but under different address and post code

I can't add it to my home policy apparently.

Any suggestions?

I’ve got a few garages, I used a broker called Riviera Insurance last time I insured them, one off’s aren't great value but I insured 11 that I have in one block for under £300. That does not cover any contents, it’s pretty much public liability.
