Summa Cutter, Adobe CC and New Windows 10 Lenovo Laptop
Discussion
Hi All
Looking for some help here, really would appreciate it.
We have a Summa D60 vinyl cutter
Current setup - Old Acer Laptop about 7 years old, Summa Cutter. Adobe Illustrator CS2 (very old).
We use Winplot to send the designs to the Summa to cut
New Setup - New Lenovo Laptop with Win 10. New Adobe Illustrator CC installed.
Been on the Summa website tried to install the Winplot Driver as that’s what were used to but it fails.... says online Winplot 11 should work with Windows 10.
Failure message - Code 14001 side by side configuration is incorrect.
I’m at a loss of what to do here. I’ve seen C++ mentioned as perhaps needing to be installed but as I’m a bit of a technophobe and this is a new laptop I’m a bit cagey about it all.
Has anyone been in the same situation? Any advice from experts?
Any help would grateful be appreciated as this is a side business I need to get running as soon as possible

Win plot is the program to read in the files. Have you downloaded and installed the usb driver?
Ok yes it is but i still can’t download winplot.I never needed a usb driver before for Ai CS2 that I’m aware of.
I can install the usb driver but won’t I need Winplot to send the design from Ai to the summa cutter to then cut?

The driver is what actually talks to the machine.
Winplot is just a front end that uses the USB driver to talk to the machine.
A printer needs a USB driver too.
Ok so I need to download the USB driver too for a vinyl cutter.Winplot is just a front end that uses the USB driver to talk to the machine.
A printer needs a USB driver too.
I still have the issue with the Winplot programme and the stated error which I’ve never encountered before. Any ideas on that front?
Have a look in control panel > programs and features. See what c++ redistrbuatables you have installed. E.g. 2005, 2010 and if x86 or x64. Make a note of them.
Now there is a slight risk of something breaking here but unlikely and you could use system restore if the worst happens. Now uninstall them and try installing winplot again after a reboot. If it need a specific version it will likely install it itself. Then reinstall any versions it didn’t install in case another app needs it.
Links to download all the versions are here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/2977003/t...

Just a bit risk adverse and its a brand new laptop so I thought it would be a straight forward, install Adobe CC and then Winplot, but the winplot is the snag
But il take a look and im a bit reluctant on the "something breaking here" on an expensive laptop but lets see.
Many Thanks for your help, do you have a vinyl cutter yourself?

I think what you really need to do it get on a WinPlot forum or group.
You really do need experienced people advising you, not people guessing.
There will be someone who has done exactly the same setup as you.
Its not the kind of thing solved by winging it.
Fair point. I’ve had a look there isn’t a forum specifically for the Winplot programme but il see if Summa have an idea. You really do need experienced people advising you, not people guessing.

Like you say there must be many people in the same or have been in the same situation as me
Latest is updated windows. Managed to install WInplot
Latest problem is when going to cut design from Winplot sending it through to the cutter via a USB A to B cable I receive the following messages
"Couldn't not open Summa Socket Cutter" click Ok....then
Failed to get the media size from the cutter
Failed to Open the communication port
Stumped now, logged a ticket with Summa. They've not responded to my first ticket I logged :-/

Looks like the solution is to turn the cutter off and (re)install the latest USB driver - the error is because it can't talk to the cutter. Latest problem is when going to cut design from Winplot sending it through to the cutter via a USB A to B cable I receive the following messages
