Warranty or not to warranty
Discussion
So the Vantage is due it’s extended warranty renewal as of next month. I’m already changing pants 2-3 times a day in preparation for it.
What is the general consensus here on extending and it’s cost?
I’ve already used it twice for tail light and TPSM replacement so it has paid off in many respects for me.
Does anyone have an accurate idea on the costs involved for an annual extension on a 2013 V12 Vantage variant as there doesn’t seem to be too much information out there on it.
Any info greatly appreciated 😉

Ive never bothered since mine ran out in 2008. In 130k miles across 2 Vantages my biggest non consumable bill was probably an aircon compressor at £550 + fitting (touch wood!)
They are very reliable cars generally and the extended warranty do not cover anywhere near what the original factory warranty covers. Many issues with these cars are just niggles and the odd sensor failure.
You would need to be really unlucky to spend £2k a year on failed components that are covered under an extended warranty.

Bought from a main dealer, so had the usual 12 months warranty.
Nothing went wrong during that period, so I then had confidence not to have warranty any more.
The only non-routine replacements during my 8 years of ownership have been, clutch (warranty would not cover anyway) and a door damper.
I don't know how much a warranty costs, but multiply by 7, subtract the door damper and I must now be up quite a lot.
Put the warranty premiums to one side if you want to, and hope luck is on your side.
Wonder if warranty covers some of the common faults, eg. light unit replacements?
It's an insurance risk assessment. Most of us have "bricks and mortar" and contents insurance on our houses but how often have most people claimed? As already said, if you add up the costs of the warranty (and what it covers - forget things .like door seals or interior trim) you equate that against the potential costs of repairs.
In my case my pre-owned V8V had the fairly well known timing cover oil leak, which involves dropping the subframe, draining oil, fixing the gasket refitting the subframe and then an all-wheel laser alignment, so I came out on top as the car came with Timeless from the dealer. I debated with myself but in the end I renewed for an additional 2 years (cheaper than 1 year x 2) and didn't need a survey as it was within the original Timeless expiry. Just means I now hopefully don't have to worry about an unexpected big bill (clutch excepted) within the next 2 years.

I just had Bamford Rose manifolds fitted so removed the risk of cat material ingestion - they offer a cheaper option in removing the primary cats. Doing either would avoid the risk of an engine rebuild.
Upon inspection, they have also picked up that some of the valves in the breather circuit have failed - I’ll add this as a claim when HWM collect the car for service next Monday.
I’ve also had one rear taillight replaced due to moisture ingress.
As per the ‘Timeout’ video on the Bamford Rose YT channel, once the items above have been fixed, there is little it covers that would warrant the cost of warranty.
For sure it would help if selling privately, and the buyer would avoid the £500-600 cost of pre warranty inspection.

Hey Fella
You'll likely find some mixed responses here - here's my personal experience.
I had some issues with air conditioning not holding its gas - Works tried to diagnose and I had nearly a whole new air con system put in. Turns out it wasn't one thing that was wrong. I ended up spending a lot of money - more than the warranty cost to have this resolved.
I've now got the extended warranty. I figure if something goes wrong the bills can be substantially more than the warranty cost. In my head - it's worth having. Some will disagree and say put the money into a savings account just in case. Both approaches are of course valid.
Cheers
Chris.

I've bought two V8 Vantages with Timeless. With the first I believe Nick Mee did replace the shocks under the warranty in the first year and I did then extend the warranty but made no further claims. With the second car it has been very reliable and is newer so I chose not to extend the warranty and will pay for any work on an ad hoc basis.

Got a quote this morning for a potential purchase on a 2009 4.7
£2529 for 1 year
£4735 for 2 years
Plus £179 for pre warranty inspection, plus (I assume) whatever needs fixing before warranty can be applied.
Won’t be bothering...

Thank you swanny. I did not realise the cost was that high.
£2529 x 7 = £17,703
minus door strut fitted £114.
As insurance is based on the principle of the many paying for the few, my Vantage has fortunately been amongst the many.
The £17,000 saved, should cover a few unexpected problems.
Has anyone taken out a warranty with another provider, eg Warranty wise, instead?
The recent Bamford Rose video discussion mentioned them as being quite straightforward to deal with.
I have just got a quick quote from them and it came to £1,380pa,up to £5,000 (with £100 contribution and £75 per hour labour rate).
Has anyone tried this more economical 'third way'?

What is the maximum claim limit on those warranties with £1700 premiums!
I have received a 1 year Warranty Wise warranty with my recently purchased 2009 V8V. It was free of course but the max claim limit is £2000. No idea how much it would cost to buy such a warranty but with a £2000 limit I can’t really see the point.

Service advisor thought but wasn’t sure that claim limit was “up to value of the car”.
My V12S turns three at the end of the month and Works gave me a price of :
12 Months - £1,804
24 Months - £3,360
Seeing as that includes full breakdown cover I don't actually think it's bad, especially as you can pay it off over 10 interest free payments if you want.
Once the car gets older than 5 years the cost then bumps up again.
