The question and this is something i always think in these cases is, why didn't the specialist check the car before you bought it?

If it was me i would get rid and get one checked before buying.

Option 3 for me...don't waste another £1 on it, get it sold and move on to the next one.

It's a 20 year old car - of course it's going to need a suspension refresh and some parts will be functioning but corroded.

It's like any older car - either use it as it is and just do the MOT stuff as it comes up or bite the bullet and do the items listed.

I'd say twist but I'd actually go for another Alfa

If it is a 156 keep it. I sold mine 10 years ago because I needed something bigger, and now that I no longer do, I find most 156s are projects and I don't really want one. I've looked at the market but there is nothing with the same character, the Giulietta looks fine but isn't the same to drive If it's a 159 then cut your losses it isn't quite as distinctive.

Sell it hopefully it will find a home mechanic that can replace the cables exhaust ect themselves and get it back on the cheep (well relatively speaking)

i don't know Alfas but i'm sure a lot of those jobs could be done cheaper, or even by yourself.
