Possibly unfair parking notice in fuel station.

What’s PH thoughts on this.
I stopped at a services station, it was a small A road place.
Busting for a pee, went in, no toilets.
Nipped next door
Came back, went back into the petrol station, went back inside and bought ad blue.
Filled up with ad blue and left.
I’ve had a £60 fine as the garage is for patrons only.
I sent the receipt for the ad blue.
They comeback and said it’s valid. Pay.
Not sure whether I should contest or pay, any thoughts?

Is there a further appeals process you could pursue?
What terms did you violate? As you were a customer of the garage, unless they publish specific terms such that you exceeded a time limit or a clause that says it's only for the time you are using the garage's facilities they may find this difficult to enforce.
You need the details on the sign. Also, did you ask staff about the toilet, and did they tell you that there was one next door? They have a duty to minimise their losses and not telling you that you cannot leave your car there whilst you do it conflicts with that; but only if you engaged with them in the discussion about the toilet.

Not sure why people get so worried about private parking tickets, the law may have changed slightly so those companies have a bit more power but they are still 99% chancers and cowboys who rely on fear and intimidation to get people to pay.
Council tickets are a different ball game, the council has unlimited public money to throw at a case to make an example of you but the private companies rely on making a profit so they tend to bin any awkward cases and they won't employ the best of legal eagles anyway as they are too expensive.
The last two I've had I wrote a simple letter to parking eye saying their signs didn't have planning permission and I had the right to park there anyway under a shop owners lease terms. Got a couple more threatening letters back and nothing more that was 3 years ago.
The other was when I wen't for a curry with a group of people, apparently the signs had changed since the last time we were there and you had to pre pay and then claim it back from the curry house or something like that. Midway through the curry a waiter came over asking who's car it was and it was about to get a ticket, well I wasn't going to interrupt my curry so when the letter eventually came I just told them their letter was the wrong format and I suggested they contact the driver of the vehicle and stop bothering me. Not heard anything since of either of them.

It would instantly get my back up that they term it a PCN.
That would normally be a Penalty Charge Notice - usually issued by the Council.
They have used the same letters to describe a 'Parking Charge Notice', which I suspect is deliberately misleading.
As said before, it probably depends if you engaged with the people there... if you asked to use the facilities and were told they were closed and you should go next door - then no way should you pay it.

One retail park with a car park run by one operator. If you parked in the spaces outside aldi but walked 1 yard right if aldi to go to home bargains you were watched and sent a fine.
The aldi spaces are for aldi only and home bargains for home bargains customers only. Despite it not being an opus and seemingly one car park.
In fact it might have been Starbucks. So if you’ve parked in the services but walked to the garage part then you have broken their rules.

I would add and genuinely stick to it if they hold you to this never shop there again and make it clear that will be the case. I stopped at a services station, it was a small A road place.
