easiest engine swap for a cheeky 'sleeper' on the cheap

I would like to have something small and nimble, almnost like a budget 205 gti. It doesn't need to be a poocket rocket but should have some get up and go. I would like it to be as easy as possible as i am new to spannering and would like to practice my skills.
I could go out and get a clio 172 but i want to actually build something.
The cheaper the better.
Hmm, I know someone doing a K20 into EG / EK Hatch:- It's a fairly "well supported" swap, nice and analogue, and plenty of straight-fit adapter kits that can be used.
You can use cheap (But preferably not too rusty) EGs or EKs, so not too much outlay on the purchase.
Once it's done, there's plenty more tunability in the engine if you want to keep playing with it in the future.

Theres a chap on here somewhere running an Octavia with a 1.8t VAG 20V with the 4wd system and laughing gas. Pushes out about 400bhp I think.

You should be able to find a donor EP3 / FN2 Fairly cheaply, or it should be possible to get a K20 block with a bit of searching. 4Pistonracing in the US offer fully built blocks, but that's not really a budget choice!

When I had my MK3 MR2 I always fancied the idea of the 2zz conversion. What an awesome car that would be.
Sadly most of this kind of work costs way more than buying a car with more power in the first place. Lots more potential problems too.
If you are new to spannering wouldn't an engine swap be ambitious? Ed China might make it look easy but I'm sure it's not! If you were to buy a cheap 172 there would be plenty of basic maintenance to keep you busy and learn some skills. I know ZX might've been having a poke with that suggestion but it is probably your best option.

You seemingly refuse to entertain the idea of starting with some basic jobs and working your way up.
You can't even be bothered to respond to advice in threads where you ask what tools you might need.
You start many threads asking basically the same question, but just stop responding to advice and questions.
