Hi all, well Ive been considering when the ideal time to get a CV8 would be. According to "What Car" UK consumer web site the Monaro should depreciate as follows over the next 4 years.

Vauxhall Monaro Coupe V8 2dr £29,895 £19,147 £16,277 £13,667 £11,348

Shows prices listed from Year 0. Now as the car has just passed its 1 year point I think its holding up a little better than indicated above, though I have seen them advertised just under £20K, Im sure with some haggling the above table isnt too far wrong though Im suspect its based on an "average" for vauxhalls.

For me, year 2 looks a good time to buy.

Check out http://www.whatcar.com/DepreciationIndex.asp for other stuff.

nah mate, you cant't put a price on being without such a fantastic car for a whole year.

Depreciation happens - but if you want a Monaro then bite the bullet and get one, honestly its worth it.

I have seen one for under 20K but it was quite high milage, the rest are from 23K upwards at the moment.

Also while you wait for the extra 12 months to pass, by your calculations the Monaro is losing 239 a month.

However one would assume you are driving your current car during this time, which is also depreciating, so you may as well have the car you really want during this time ??

It amazes me how "WhatCar" can make a judgment on the future value of a new car....................

The Monaro is not a average car and as far as I can see there is no relevant model to base their calculations on!!

I think Paul has a point.

Out of the 31 Monaros for sale in the UK on Autotrader, one (the high milage one) is 20K and the rest start at 23K.

Looks like they are holding their value slightly better than anticipated.

There's a difference between what's asked and what's received...as I've found to my cost on many ocassions!

Yes, except there are a few reasons why I would like to wait, which includes a no fault claim to an uninsured driver. As well as an SP50 which comes off my record in Jan 06.
Also just floating the comment to guage reaction. As I believe that the monaro is holding its value a little better than indicated, though a check on the vauxhall site shows some sub £20K ones there too. (Well one anyway, which is not the one on Autotrader).
Also as has been mentioned what a cash client pays does not necessarily match the ask price. We are talking main dealer retail prices. Im sure trade in and wholesale are significantly closer.

Still, Im not complaining, because I want one next year!

I think the numbers of Monaro's are too low to apply typical depreciation factors. I suspect that in a few years they will bottom out at £X?, as the performance & rarity values will be a big factor. I imagine this has happened to Lotus Carltons of which I can't recall seeing any really cheap ones being advertised.
