Hi all,
I have a new to me 2005 BMW 330i. It’s a really nice car with loads of history however I have always had an issue with the brakes. First of all when I picked the car up the brake shudder was awful at higher speeds. So the dealer agreed to replace all the discs and pads. However it still doesn’t feel right! When braking hard the steering wheel wobbles in your hands like the car keeps trying to change direction. I had to do an emergency stop earlier. All the wheels just locked up and left massive black steaks down the road, tried it again, Same thing. Something isn’t right!

Any ideas?

Thanks

It sounds like the ABS is goosed, does the warning light come on initially & then go off when the car is running?

Comes on for a second initially and then goes off.

Sounds like a faulty ABS unit, very, very common.

My ABS failed last year - cannot remember the exact part but BMW wanted over £2k.

I went to a specialist who charged about £450 for a refurbed unit fitted.... You should be able to get it cheaper, as I am geographically limited (Isle of Wight)

I have a 2007 330i coupe.

It's not an unusual problem with BMWs.

Thankfully these people offer a reconditioning service with lifetime guarantee for sensible money:- https://www.ecutesting.com/product-catalogue/bmw/3...

When I press and hold the trip computer reset button, this comes up and then goes away.

It's likely there is an ABS unit fault - get the codes read, then have connections etc inspected ot make sure it's not something else that's actually trivial and simple (last thing you want to do is pay out for a replacement ABS unit when it could be a faulty connector or something that could be fixed for a few quid). A decent diagnostician will do their due diligence.
