Dogs and cheese.

Simple Q for the Vet & nurse.I’m not talking masses of cheese, but little titbits as in little bits on floor when when you drop some. With mine it's Danish Blue. I cut a chunk and she's looking for a bit. It's usually a little crumb. But how much is too much. She's an ex rescue, and we spoil her as she's had a previous bad life. I never have had any occasion to train her- I call and she comes. If in any doubt, she will run to us for security. meet a bike out and she runs to jump on my knee on my scooter.

Ours eats plenty of cheese, we noticed during lockdown he has got through a block of cheddar in a fortnight, so we have bought a large mixed back if 'training treats' small pellets of rabbit/chicken/kangaroo etc. Can get the source of the gf if interested.

Apprently they can have too much. But the vet is perfectly happy for him to be drip fed cheese during vacations. I don't know if blue cheese is the same.

Nothing wrong with cheese. Well, other than making them fat if they eat too much. We sometimes use small cheddar squares as training treats.

Some dogs can be lactose intolerant (like humans). But if it doesn’t get catastrophic sts after eating cheese, it’s fine.

If the dog is getting loads of exercise and is not fat, don’t worry about it.

It won't get him out of the pond, though.

My 3 love cheese, its funny, I can open the fridge, have rummage through, get stuff out, put stuff back and they don't make an appearance, as soon as I open the plastic compartment thing on the door, where the cheese is kept, they are by my side in an instant!

Ours go mad for cheese.

You can open various other packets of foodstuff in the kitchen and then won't budge from the living room, but as soon as you go near the cheese wrapper they somehow recognise the sound and come charging in.

Our last dog loved it. He had moments of intelligence: one was the "cheese stare".

If we were ever cutting cheese in the kitchen he would come and stare intently. Not at the cheese but at the floor where any crumbs would land.

I used to hide my Westie’s worming pills in cheese until she decided it was no longer good enough and moved on to pâté.

Ours knows the difference in sound between the cheese packet and anything else in the fridge.

Don’t give them Primula from a tube just now as it has a toxin in it! A friend had been training her pup with this stuff and he’s not been well. He’s better now though.

I thawed out his Kongs this morning, and my wife refilled them with yoghurt and peanut butter with banana replacing the Primula.

I'll be taking half a tube going back to the supermarket to tomorrow.

Daisy eats the cheese around the tablet, best we've found for her is peanut butter.

But like someone else posted, we use pâté for drugs
