No idea who it was, all done from the seller.

Total cost for crate US to UK, then back of a van from Portsmouth to Glasgow was £2k.

2k, bloody hell. I am seeing quotes around $600 for roro.

Yeah, that’s cheaper than £2k

Shipping costs are available on line. Shipping from USA around £600 if its for a holiday, I know a few guys who have done that regularly for Euro holidays.

Importing a bike permanently from USA has other costs added.

But there's a lot more to it than that.

Also seeing how they don't give a st about cars (I used to buy them off the Dock auction in Dublin) I hate to image the state a nice bike might end up in.

I would think someone would sell container space for bikes

I'd be looking for container space really so you know it's looked after, be worth contacting the importer bloke mentioned in this viddy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDvKo9nTCho

SeaKargo will do a part container, which may work out cheaper(ish). Only issue is they maximise space so your bike may get delayed if it doesn't fit in the next container.

This isn't a case of nose into the corner and a cable tie around the brake. I would want it securely strapped upright on a pallet like the bikes going for European track days.

I have a biker mate that can not only collect the bike from the seller but crate it up for me. Roro is marginally cheaper than a crate but as has been said, he will do all that for free, ( he owes me sooooo many favours). But theres not much shipping out of Tampa.

Have had 2 quotes from yank companies, both for about $1400 in total. 1 a roro from Brunswick to London, 2nd in a container between 4 cars, strapped in, to Southampton. The bike is $3900, so total costs will be about 4400 pounds....is it worth it?? 1973 cb500 in very good nick

Depends if you want it or make a few quid, I guess.

Freshly imported from the States and £150 less than you can bring one over for using your figures: https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1232174

I used a company called Daily Global Logistics last year, when my sister needed to move back to the UK from the US. Admittedly not for a motorbike, but there were large items of furniture which she'd inherited from our grandmother, and I'm sure that they could cope with a motorbike. They even offered a packing service (which we didn't use).

I paid £660 for collection and shipping to the UK, including customs clearance. Collection from their depot at the port was an option, but I paid an additional £195 for delivery to the UK address. Everything arrived in perfect condition and the people I dealt with were amazingly helpful.

If you put it in Google it's the first result. May be worth a try.

Non standard exhaust lowers the price by over a grand

Says the standard exhaust is available. It's up to you at the end of the day, if it's a money making exercise then it's pretty easy to work out if it's worth it or not as there's loads for sale.

Sounds like you already know quite a bit about the shipping and value of these bikes so you're in a better position than anyone on here to make the call I reckon!

Original exhaust can be purchased......yeh for around 1500 pounds min! Spent a cpla hrs yesterday emailing 3 companies in the USA and watching the youtube as mentioned in a previous post, (Rinkens and they were one that got back to me with a $1450 quote) Not a money maker will probably keep the bike for 2/3 years then sell on....just dithering a bit...

Ah ok. I thought it was purely a money making exercise in which case it's pretty easy to do the sums. If it's a bike you like and want to keep that makes it more complicated!

At the end of the day if you like it, and it won't lose you any money over 2-3 years it has to be worth doing. Not many hobbies you can do for free for a few years!

I have an FJR with panniers that I used to bomb up to Pompey to see my Mum....anyone travelling from Cornwall to Hants knows that east Devon/Dorset is a nightmare in summer in a car. But Mums gone but I still have relatives to see and of course going to the beach here on a bike is easy...especially parking. The CB would be just for posing, a blast here in there in nice summery weather....
