I hadn’t watched the video to Chris Rea’s hit for some time, and had forgotten how many decent cars from the late 80s were featured in it - XJS, Range Rover, Merc W124, Sierra Sapphire Cosworth, 944 S2

However, there’s one I can’t identify, so wondering if anyone on here knows what it it:

I’ve been guessing at Honda Preludes, Rover 800s, and then other images made me think it was a Lotus Excel, but I don’t think any of them are correct. The wheels look fairly unique, so hopefully that’ll be the giveaway for those in the know

Had a scurry around trying to find something similar on Google.

Looks a bit Ford-esk to me but can't place it. Once someone gets the wheel the car should be easy. They seem to have locking centre caps

I went to the imcdb website to see if that had the answer. It doesn’t, it has the same image asking for a response.

You're not wrong, Porsche 959 and a Fiat X1/9 in the opening shot traffic jam too!

Difficult as those aren't standard alloys, but looking at the colour and the plastic body mouldings I'm thinking Oak green mk2 Golf GTI?

I was thinking some big french saloon or something like a Saab, but fairly sure its not now.

Cant find anything matching, those alloys do look after market.

My thoughts virtually precisely ... but due to the slightly different bumper with integral foglights I think we're seeing a late MG Maestro turbo here.....

(in the vid it seems the rear is slightly higher than the front) the song dates from '89 so right in the period....the car in the not much to go on video had blended body strakes with red inserts (very brief view of corner of front bumper) and an evident bodykit at sill level with an outer "flick" ...wheelarches are rounded ......

.....like those wheels though I think they give a japanese impression...

Initial thought was Montego but they have a more blocky wing mirror whereas this has round edges
