Requesting a lot of cash from a bank

A few years ago HSBC wouldn't let me have (IIRC) about £7k without a full inquisition abut what I wanted it for. They even asked to see the ad for the car!
Apparently they were worried that I might get mugged in the street, it was much safer to do a bank transfer (and possibly type in an incorrect number) - right!
Au contraire, TSB said OK last year for a similar amount. Needed notice for large sums but said they'd have that amount in stock.

I quite like the idea of going into a bank and asking for so much money that HSBC hasn't got it. Next stop - Monte Carlo!
Individual bank branches don't usually keep too much cash on the premises nowadays. If they need any sizeable amount it will be delivered by security van.Whatsmyname said:

I visited my town centre based bank and asked for one £50 to put in a nieces birthday card. There was a great search of all the tellers drawers, and finally found the only fifty they had. Apparently the local shops refuse to take 50s, and shoppers therefore don't want to withdraw cash containing fifty, so they don't routinely stock them or handle them.
My niece had never seen a 50 before, and months later, still hasn't spent it!

It would be safer then if they delivered direct to my house, like groceries... saves me walking home with £50K cash in a grubby holdall... the tribester said:
