Hi All - been getting some erratic rpm readings on the diagnostics thingy (e.g. 14000 rpm !), and an occasional power loss when accelerating - on my list of things to check was the crankshaft sensor. I found it (good start), but getting the thing out of its hole isn't so easy - yes I have remove the bolt, but it doesn't come out freely and so far I have wanted to force it too much. I guess it has some sort of o-ring that might be resisting a bit, but any advice on how to get it out elegantly? Right now I have the top part of the airbag out, and a couple of the HT leads unplugged to get access.... Many thanks, Ian (2002 Tusan 4.0 Mk1)

I'll answer my own question.... It just pulls out after a tiny drop of penetration oil and a wiggle smile The end was covered in muck - so maybe that will be the issue; although I also measured the suck from throttle bodies whilst I was in there and one seems to be a bit off - so that needs to be sorted before I'll give it some exercise !

It is sited on top of the bell housing, just behind the rear of the engine.
You will need to remove the airbox to get better access.

Its a Ford Escort Mk 5 - 6 item.

Do you service your car yourself or pay someone to do it? If you pay someone ask them why they haven't checked your crank sensor at every service .. it's in the factory schedule.
