What small vans can you get a bike in these days? BIL needs a small van for work and I'm tempted to top up budget (to still beans).... So what works? Thinking Ford Connect LWB or similar. I know it will be tight, but it'll be nice to have an easy option for track days.

Cheers

One of the Citroen Despatch/Peugeot Partner/fiat scudo sized vans are a good size without OTT size.

Was looking at one myself before i bought the mondeo - i ended up buying an st tdci and figured id get a tow bar fitted and just buy a 200 quid 2 bike trailer.

Would struggle in a partner as thats the same as the citroen belingo, its the height that causes an issue, about 6 cms to spare with the latest connect and a 1199, couldnt get it in using a ramp.
The earlier connects had more headroom.

I would mention that you might find an MPV a better bet - easier to insure, higher power, higher spec and with tinted windows less chance of a break in (thieves don't tend to look at them)

Need to look at height though?

I used to have a Ford Galaxy (old model with removable seats) and could get a bike in the back but needed to remove stuff like screens etc. to get it through the rear door and even then height was very limited. Newer MPVs with foldaway seats maybe even worse due to the thicker floor having the seats in them?

Have a look at wheelchair converted small mpvs etc.. as well.

Most will come with a handy ramp already built in, and depending what bike you have should have ample headroom too along with things already in place for strapping the bike down to.

Called WAVs not a bad shout ex motability cars. Fairly sure this is what a friend of a friend did and re jigged (removed) most of the internal seating.

Thumbs up for the Citroen Dispatch.

I had an old '02 1.7TD with Star Trek mileage on it and carried my TZ350 and all my riding gear and tools etc. As I recall the load bed was just about 2 metres.

It went like the clappers for what it was, burned a bit of oil though. biggrin
