Peugeot 205 Gti Content No number plates and no V5c HELP!!!
Discussion
Hello everyone. Ive just signed up on here mainly to show off my latest mechanical love affair but also to find out if anyone here knows how I can find the number plate for the little Phase 1 205 Gti that I genuinely had to dig out of its resting place of 20 years or so last Monday.
Have a picture, just so we know what were talking about.

Ok, so, yeah, its dog rough.... but it was cheap, and if the kids who broke into the yard hadn't smashed every piece of glass in it, it would actually be near enough complete... bar the wheels and the arch kit which shouldn't be too hard to find.
Originally I was going to break it, then I thought it was too good for that and wanted to sell it, now i'm thinking I am actually in love with this little car and I want to build it..... but i'll need a V5c before I do that. Ive downloaded the V62 form from the DVLA and may just send that in with a some supporting photos and a grovelling letter attempting to mitigate the lack of a registration number but id much rather just find the number plate first. The aluminium VIN tag corresponds with the VIN/Chassis number stamped into the panel under the windscreen, in the engine bay directly in front of the driver so in that respect its correct but there must be a way that someone can find out what the original number plate was from the VIN plate alone. Does anyone here know how to do it?

After a quick research online, https://uk.vin-info.com/ seems to do it.
Looks like that's a paid service to get meaningful information.
Write to DVLA is probably your best bet unless you know anyone who can do a HPI check from the VIN.

Nice one...
I had been reading through old forum threads rather than paid for sites as a lot seemed to charge the earth for information that I dont really require... Your website doesnt seem to be asking for a great deal of money though. Although he passed away last year I knew the previous owner and remember him driving the car so Im confident its not hooky. Cant believe it would have had outstanding finance on it so no need for that, either.
The DVLA seem to be operating a skeleton staff at the moment due to C19 and thats another reason for me wanting to make their job as easy as possible before I apply for the V5c .
