Been given an iPhone 7 from my brother. Out of contract a while ago, but it was on EE.

Are there any reputable companies that can unlock this iPhone?

www.official sim unlock.com seems to be a fraud/scam!!

Possible it already is unlocked. Typically once a phone is paid for (if on monthly contract) the service provider, in this case EE, will unlock the device. If they haven't, then you could ask them to do it?

EE should still unlock the phone. They might charge you £20. They might not.

Called EE ... they said the department is closed due to COVID-19. Apparantly it might open up in a weeks time.

Just looking for alternatives.

Bit of a thread bump as I’m in the same/similar situation

I gave away my old iPhone 7 to a relatives daughter on the Isle of Man, the iphone shouldn’t have been locked as I’d bought it directly from Apple but it’s saying their sim doesn’t work due to the activation policy (which is odd as the sun came out of another iPhone).

Anyone know if this is a phone lock issue or something else (and how to fix if it is?) Thanks

That message means the phone has been locked by your 'existing' carrier which suggests you took out a contract for the SIM deal. Call Apple customer services. 0800 048 0408 if that is not the case but I think your issue is with the previous provider.

My lowish opinion of BT has just got lower, I’ve only ever been on a sim only deal with BT but it looks like they still chose to lock the phone. I’ll try Apple next week. Thanks

Well, I ditched BT years ago as they are organised criminals. They paid me a few hundred in the last few months for their pig headed antics-code for charge for nothing, you’ll pay and we will give up only when you take us to court smile
