I don't really see the issue with that, the fees are transparent and if you can't be arsed going to pick it up yourself its not a huge amount of money if you are spending £30+ already.

I would guess they do!

They also have a "Tip the driver" selection afterwards, so its not going to the delivery driver!

Mad.

How do they think they'll compete with deliveroo with that? I'd never dream of ordering from somewhere wanting to charge that.

I have premium deliveroo which means free delivery, and there's a service fee there, but its 50p.

Is it like supermarkets where the, (in this case the restaurant), stands the cost of the discount? Saw an article before lockdown about just eat, and how they kept increasing costs for take always. It was catch 22, expensive, but you aren’t visible unless you use them.

All the takeaways around me are moving away from JustEat to their own app and web platforms and offer cheaper prices that justeat plus 10% discount for using their apps

I can’t see many of these collective ordering services lasting infinitely longer with their extortionate fees tbh

Very true.... Remember the trick Just Eat pulled a few years ago when credit / debit card surcharges were made illegal - overnight the 50p card (not added to cash on delivery) fee became a "service charge" and added to all orders regardless of the payment method.

Have also noticed that since ordering via our local kebab place's own app as well as discounts every x order the portions are more generous, it really does make me wonder how little profit Just Eat leaves them with.

Agreed - what do they charge, 20-30% of the total order. I thought the premise was usually margin or volume... not both!

I just menu fk Just Eat - use the app if I am ordering from somewhere I don't have the menu for and then Google the number for the takeout and order direct.

35% for using their drivers, 14% if you use your own driver.

They've single-handedly killed many old school family-owned takeaways.

GrubHub and Doordash in the US are also pretty brutal - this tweet is old, but just depresses me every time I see it.

That tweet doesn't work.

Also deliveroo have started adding a service charge aswell very underhand. They provide a delivery service so all their cost should be shown in that not some more bullst charge when you get to the checkout page.

Uber are sneaky bds aswell make a big song and dance about reducing delivery fees then bang 10% total order charge.

Mcdo is still £3.99 tho flat rate delivery no service charge.

yes

Problem is that some don't do delivery themselves. I went to the website of the takeaway I ordered from yesterday, and they only go via the platforms.

Wow, 35%? Thats ridiculous and only going to end up with the punter getting food made from poor quality ingredients.

They do. Put more effort into their own advertising and marketing. More social media, more leaflets from doors, taste events in the high street etc

And importantly - offer card payment online/delivery driver to have a card machine. As no one uses cash and often use the platforms as they don't have cash.
