I picked up this 428i a few weekend ago and decided that today was a good day to stretch its legs around the greater LA area. I live in OC so this is a bit of a day out, having had the morning to myself I got up early and blasted up the 5 freeway with coffee in hand.

I was heading for a drive I’d never done before but always wanted to. The very famous Angeles Crest Highway, as used by many a petrol head and Magnus Walkers hide out. A 66 mile ribbon of beautiful smooth flowing tarmac that winds its way up to around 7000ft at its highest point.

It provided a beautiful backdrop for a top down blast through the twisties, switch backs and long sweeping turns that make it so famous.

Under no illusions I was a modified outlaw 911, I pulled over to take the top down and enjoyed the cruise.

I ended up at the famous (and closed due to COVID) Newcombs Ranch cafe with some friends that overtook me along the way hehe

Smoky the bear was keeping watch for fires at all times.

It was just as awesome as I expected, so quiet (apart from the odd highly modified 911 and friends!) and thoroughly enjoyable way to spend an hour in the mountains.

Rather than just head back home (an hour away) I thought I’d take in some of the usual LA sights along the way.

I wanted to stop in Hollywood but decided against it as they were preparing for another protest (no idea why these are the wrong way around).

Then on the way back down the 405, stopped at a very cool landmark for Space / Elon fans:

I guess I should also speak a little about the car! It’s a 2017 428i (4 cylinder turbo) with about 240bhp or so. It has the M Sport package, but with the heavy roof it is never going to be quick or nimble. I love the versatility of the roof down having never owned a convertible before, and I love the Silver / Red leather combo.

Hope you enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed the trip this morning!

I tried the Angeles Crest highway, imagined it being basked in sunshine like your pictures.

I went at the wrong time of year - couldn't see the scenery because of fog, and rockslides had put very large but infrequent rocks all over the road so you couldn't even enjoy it.

Yeah I dig the red leather too. And there something very cool about the USDM side markers on some cars too.

The Alfa went back a few months ago. It was on a lease.

I think the 4 series is a really smart looking car and that combination really works.

Great place to enjoy a convertible.
