My history buff wife introduced me yesterday, so very different to Mary Beard...

Excellent programme.

Reminded me how badly I want to be back on one of the Greek islands.

Have watched a couple of these now, she has a strangely erotic way of presenting, but a good watch.

I thought it was just me. Can’t put my finger on it (but I’d like to) but it’s quite enjoyable watching. biggrin

Watched the Pompeii series she was in, sorry, just don't get your enthusiasm. Better than Mary Beard I'll grant you but anything would be better than her.

I agree. Found the Pompeii one boring and her presenting style annoying. Put me off watching the Greek one. Maybe she just grows on you after a few programmes but I am out.

Mary Beard might not quite cut it in some departments, but she's a hell of an historian and presenter. (IMO)

I found it very enjoyable and informative. It's the cleavage and juvenile swot combo that she has going for her. A little overbearing, but not too bad.

If it wasn't for her having her tits out it wouldn't be worth watching.
Very superficial presenting style where the series would actually benefit from being more in depth

I prefer Lucy Worsley - she brings a real sense of fun and enthusiasm to her subjects.

Me too and Alice Roberts, maybe I just have a thing for female historians. I was well into my 2nd bottle of wine when I started the thread and was more interested in her cleavage than in what she was saying biggrin.

They used to be, but I think all tv programs are getting dumbed down. Don’t get me wrong, she is still worth listening to and does present well, but the same level of information is just not there.

This is one of her earlier programs and the information quality is much higher.

Alas I think she is one of an ever reducing circle of presenters that genuinely know their subjects. Others have been mentioned that also fit into that category in this thread, but also Dr. Susanah Lipscomb.

On the whole I’m enjoying the program and will continue to watch, and it sure as hell beats the other detritus that’s being shown, but think think they could be better.

Agree that Lucy Worsley is watchable, her presenting style is both fun and informative.

And for the slightly older viewer, I give you Helen Rosslyn.

Like a sack of turnips tied around the middle, the programme is more like a Ms Hughes holiday film, eating here, hugging friends there, eating again somewhere else, when there is actually a bit of history info it comes as a surprise. Wouldn't bother with the second episode, deleted the series link.

Also, can I just say, forget ye not Professor Kate Williams!

Big fan of Lucy Worsley, her programmes are always entertaining and informative.

If you like historical, informative, entertaining and featuring a female presenter, have a listen to Natalie Haynes "Stand up for Classics" on Radio 4 there are usually some episodes available on BBC Snouds to listen to/download. Obviously lacking the visual stimuli provided by La Hughes and co but very good (and funny).
