Hi all,
have been noticing that the heater control wheel that varies the airflow screen-to-footwells has been getting stiffer and tonight something gave way / snapped. Does anyone know how to get at the mechanism behing the dashboard?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Matt,

Have a look at trefor's website here
Sounds like you need to buy Steve Heath's Griff Chimaera bible from here

cheers,
Craig

Cheers Craig,
that website is just the job,
looks scary stuff with the possibility of busting walnut veneer- I'm used to working on Land Rovers with big spanners, hammers and crowbars...
It's just been for a service too, why didn't it break 3 weeks ago?

You can get at the heater vent cables just by lifting the LHS of the dash - much easier. The veneer can easily get cracked if you are not careful undoing/removing the other side.

Trefor – once the dash top is off, how much more work is it just to remove the actual veneer dash itself?

Obviously the dials/wires have got to be removed etc, but how long/difficult a job is it – anything to watch out for?

I hope my veneer does crack cos then it won't take too ong to get off and make way for my aluminium dash!!

Mikey - I've not removed/replaced my veneer, but it doesn't look hard, there are a lot of wires and connectors to undo/unscrew though!

Trefor,
just a quick note to say thanks for the excellent info on your website (as recommended by craig) - tackled the job today and happily found that all that had happened was that the screw holding the cable to the underside of the lower thumbwheel (for the air director control) had worked loose. Bit tricky to get the screw back in - had to take out the main bolt and lift off the top wheel and then turn over the bottom one. Couldn't have done it without your website though. Big cheers!

If its anything like mine was u shouldnt have to much
Glue.
There where two or three parts that had the most, arond the center part(as the Griffith one bends)
And around some of the dials.
It seemed to chip of quite easy with a screw driver(small) and cleaned up well with wire brush, wool and white spirits.

All the Best

BB
Edited as phissed again and completly misread that Mike,U dont want to get the venner out quick but the whole thing.
