AMR Rapide - Kermit get's a garage partner!
Discussion
As promised here are a few more pics of my good lady's brand new AMR Rapide in Scintilla Silver, lime accents both inside and out, B&O and full exterior carbon pack as purchased yesterday. One of just 210 in the world.
Its been a very long wait during lockdown! We spent a couple of weeks hunting down our dream spec AMR Rapide just before the lockdown hit and had the Gov given us just 48hours more we would have collected back then, but sadly the deal just wasn't able to be done with such short notice of the closure, so everything went on ice until the dealership reopened in June.
We've been out for a little blast today, and I can confirm the car really is as epic as I remember from my test drive almost a year ago at an AM Leeds hosted AMR special event. The AMR Rapide has been an eternal itch needing scratching ever since!
The AMR Rapide is a true weapons grade Aston Martin. I think somebody on here once likened them to an Imperial Star Destroyer which really is a spot on description! With the 595bhp GT12 version of the V12 n/a engine and a 210mph top speed, yet whilst hosting 4 adults it puts Kermit to shame in the top trump calls to some extent!
The two cars still have a lot in common yet they really are chalk and cheese to drive. Both are totally epic and so suited to what each of us wants from their car, and both are equally brilliant in their own way.
Very proud to have finally become a 2 Aston family
A huge and special thanks go to Mark Hill along with Max and Chris at JCT600 for making the deal happen and holding over through the lock-down. A special mention to Danny too, the best service tech ever for sorting the custom number plate mounts whilst taking delivery!
So enough talk, "we want pics" I hear you screaming.... ok, ok!

Superb!
Two questions:
1. Which is louder on cold start-up?
2. Does the Rapide have Carbon-Ceramic brakes?
Lovely looking thing!
Hi JohnTwo questions:
1. Which is louder on cold start-up?
2. Does the Rapide have Carbon-Ceramic brakes?
Lovely looking thing!
1) Tricky one and not a fair comparison at the moment, but right now I think Kermit sounds louder.
However Kermit has the AM / quicksilver cat bypass installed and fuse 22 removed and doesn't have the double glazing and extra sound insulation that the Rapide has.
The AMR Rapide of course has the 595bhp mods with the magnesium inlet manifolds, but I am not sure about the cats? My understanding was that to achieve the 595bhp figure the secondary cats were removed, but I have yet to peer under the car to check. Will do so later!
So assuming the Rapide does come with the cat bypass, then if I were to pull out fuse 22 then listen from outside the car, then I would expect the AMR to be louder.
Must admit I now have 30bhp envy!

2) Yes

As standard, the Rapide AMR comes fitted with carbon ceramic brakes. Measuring 400mm at the front with six piston calipers and 360mm at the rear with four piston calipers, this is the first time that a Rapide has been fitted with such stopping power.

I've grown to hate old fashioned iron brakes. I would not want to buy a nice car with them. A runabout is fine since I don't care about the brake dust.
What about if you're stood behind both cars, the extra soundproofing in the Rapide must impact from the drivers seat!
I have a severe case of garage envy. Well, 50%, I prefer my V12V colour, but I'd replace the RRS 5.0 with a Rapide like yours in a flash.
Happy driving!

I guess it was that very car sat in am leeds showroom 2 weeks ago when i had a nosey at the gt4 car. Congratulations!
No that's their Halo stock car in Stirling Green, but obviously very similar bar for colour inside and out. Was v tempted with that, but the soft spot for Scintilla ran deep! To the best of my knowledge my good ladys car was never in the showroom until the actual delivery day.Their Halo car is still for available.

Ah yes that makes sense, I didn’t pay attention to the showroom car colour tbh, just saw it lurking at the back!Their Halo car is still for available.

So interestingly it seems the AMR Rapide has small secondary sports cats! I've seen them and the owners manual also confirms!I've grown to hate old fashioned iron brakes. I would not want to buy a nice car with them. A runabout is fine since I don't care about the brake dust.

I thought they were removed to get to the 595bhp spec, but maybe that was in the earlier cars and maybe they fitted sports cats to better meet the character of the car, yet not impacting power.
In the manual it shows 2 power outputs, presumably for countries where the sports cats are not allowed for regs.
it says Power output 595bhp (sports cats) / 580bhp (standard cats)
So I suspect a cat bypass and the fuse (actually fuse 3 in a Rapide it seems) would need to be done to match the noise of Kermit. For now, my good lady is happy with it as it is.

Interesting little video from Nicolas Mee who now have another Scintilla AMR Rapide up for sale...
2019 Aston Martin Rapide AMR - Nicholas Mee & Company, Aston Martin Specialists
Seems only 188 cars of the originally stated 210 run were actually built and only 47 of them are in the UK!
A few still unsold - get out there guys, its nuclear warhead of a car, seriously a hidden gem in the range!
So rather rare, in fact actually rarer than Kermit as a V12VSM, although obviously Kermit remains 1/1 as the only factory born Frog Green V12VS

I really like the carbon wings badge on that Rapide. They would go well on Kermit, the black on green. 2019 Aston Martin Rapide AMR - Nicholas Mee & Company, Aston Martin Specialists

What a beast! Phenomenal things those AMR Rapides, the ultimate 4 door and the second half of an AM collection that is way to easy to be jealous of! Well done man, you have upped the bar. The Star Destroyer may have been my call on Dewi`s new white Rapide, his previous one I have referred to as the Battlestar Galactica.
