I found this in some conservative newspaper, I forget which one:

haa haa, the infallible SCPs have cocked it up yet again :)
Spalding magistrates accepted that cameras must be accompanied by warning signs and street lighting
.
Is this correct? Would this ruling make enforcement by scameras located in the middle of nowhere (let’s be honest, there’s a lot of them) illegal?

The paper is wrong.

Basically, the default limit on a road with street lights is 30mph. The lights on the road in question were footway lamps only so the 30mph limit was not properly in force, and therefore unenforceable.

Oh I see.
So it was ruled illegal because the limit of 30 mph was not enforceable (because the road was unlit), as opposed to the road being unenforceable simply through being unlit? Am I correct in deducing there are no 30 repeater signs on that road?
This would make a lot more sense.

Thanks Mrs M

So for example is a small village in the middle of nowhere that used to be national, but now 30mph not enforceable?

There are 3 roads into the village, the centre being a T junction.

One 30mph sign at each way in, but that is it.

There are NO street lights at all.

There are however huge red coloured patches, rumble strips and all manner of other road furniture that denotes the 30mph section... mental.

So if I got mobile scammed here, do they have a leg to stand on?

Is it that the sign is allowed, but if no repeaters after so many hundred yards, it becomes national again as there are no street lights?

AFAIK:

streetlights 200 yards apart and no signage = 30mph
streetlights as above with signage = must have repeaters for whatever limit
no streetlights and no signages = nsl

Would like to be corrected though if some of that is wrong.
