I have been pondering about getting a XKR (150) as a weekend car.

My only reserve is the rear seats, I have a 1 year old daughter, and realistically if I had a car that I couldn’t take her out in I would seriously be limiting the amount I could take the car out.

I’m looking on google images I see 1/2 pics of kids in the rear.

Has anyone had any experience of having your little one in the rear seats of one of these?

Or alternatives, with a budget around 10/15k

I’ve owned both x100 and x150 R. There is enough room in the back for children up to about age 5. The 5 litre will easily show a non turbo 911 a clean pair of heals on the straight. Corners are different, as it’s a lover not a fighter. Traction out of corners can be a bit testing on a track. As a GT there is not a lot to match it. Comfortable, swift and practical. Go for the 5 litre and you will not be disappointed.

Can't help with your questions on the Jag but maybe on the subject of kids in cars.

My experience was that baby up to 18 months actually required the most space. They are rear facing by law and are usually in an infant carrier that fits into an isofix base. Bloomin huge contraptions. During this time I had a 5 door family hatch. Then, when my boy was able to go forward facing I got an E92 BMW coupe which has been absolutely fine. Still a pretty large child seat with separate base but at least I could lift him in and out easily as it faced forward. Now at 4 yrs old and in a high back booster seat he needs even less space. He can climb in it himself which saves my back and his legs are not long enough to be a problem even if there was very little leg room. I reckon you'd be fine until teenage years when they might need legroom but even then the front passenger seat might be able to go forward a bit. Other option is put the child seat in the front. Just turn the airbag off and it's fine.

Hello, I just bought one, well sort of, I got the XK NA, it's a beautiful car to drive. I checked everything, HPI, servicing with Jaguar etc but I didn't check tyre age, they were original from 2008 so I have the car booked for a new set of Continentals. I also took a look at the battery when i got home from pick up, it's also the original, 12 years old, so i'l replace as it's a bit too old for my liking. Just a couple of tips for when you go looking.

Regarding the seats in the back. I have a tall 6 year old and he was a little squished, the seats are quite low, a cushion may help, my 9 year old daughter hasn't set in it yet but the rear space is limited, also will you be taking a pram or pushchair? The boot is quite compact. It may be a good idea to visit your local Jaguar dealer, if they have an XK and look at the space. We also have a 5 Series estate for family duties.
A 1 year old will need a car seat, I'm sure Jaguar did sell them , there's isofix in the back.

Thanks for that.

I have been looking at both the 4.2 and 5.0 although my budget lends its self to the 4.2, I was looking into the specs and noted the 4.2 is a lot lighter than the 5.0.

Do you think 5.0 is worth the extra over the 4.2....as my plan was get a 4.2 and if looking for more power, do a pully conversion.

Yes them Isofix based are massive, we actually been ok on the amount we take, we tend to use a sling as the prams take up so much space.

But you are right the older they get, it seems the less you need.

Good tips, I will keep them in mind.

We generally use a sling, which doesn't take up much space, and like you I have a C class estate for family duties, but I would like to do some euro road trips and also when we go out at weekends and don't want this limited to just me being able to fit

I had a budget which crossed over into both but a couple of things swayed me to the 4.2.

I like the shift lever in the older model, I was worried about the retractable type not working and the 4.2 doesn't seem to have some of the issues that the 5.0 has, eg water pumps, pullys, I'm not sure how much of an issue these things are, they could be rare and just forum chat. The front on the 5.0 has puffy cheeks, it looks a little off with the rest of the car. However, both are incredible.

There are a few available, some good, some ok. Go for FSH, service is mileage or annual based, some dealers describe FSH but seem to miss an odd year due to mileage.

Yes I have also read about the early 5.0 have some issues.

Did you ever have a child seat in the back?

Buy on condition if that means a 4.2 then go for that as it's not exactly lacking & seems to have less issues.

Hi, no child seat, just a booster but I don't think we need one in the XK as the boy disappears into the seat, I don't think one would fit anyhow as the seat slopes in a sort of U shape.

As the other chap posted, buy on condition, I wouldn't worry too much about the year or engine, both are sublime.

I've currently got a Jag 5.0 XK and our baby is now 19 months old. I bought the car a month after she was born. In my experience, after an hour of fitting and struggling, there was absolutely no way to fit our rear-facing Iso fit seat into the back, so for the first few months, we just used our saloon.

I did however manage to fit our Britax group 1/2/3forward facing seat and the missus is able to sit in the front too. Much, much easier to click the Isofix point in by removing the leather seat base and central divider first (just a few plastic push pins). Managed a few 2-3 hr trips as a family.

No worries about the boot, ample room for our stroller and weekend bags due to the hatchback bootlid.

PS. if you can afford it go for the 5.0ltr facelift and ideally a Portfolio. It's more than just a larger engine, you get nicer LED rearlights, revised front bumper, better (!) connectivity and nicer interior.

EDIT: Sorry just realised you're after an XKR not an XK. Most owners suggest 4.2 XKR has similar acceleration to a 5.0 XK if that is a factor.

I would echo the above - I considered one of these a few years ago, and I think the XK 5.0 is well worth a look as its a lovely engine and pretty much as quick as the 4.2 R, but more reasonably priced

Depends on which interior. 4.2 XK

4.2 rear light

4.2 with out cheeks

Buy on condition, FSH and your preferred colour combo, 5.0 is great, 4.2 is great, the R is great, they are all great.

The 4.2 is good! The 5.0 is lusty. My X100 was a 4 litre and was still quick, so a 4.2 in the X150 still would be a good drive.
