I have a 12" Stanley tool bag for carrying in my classics. It holds everything I need for 'on the road' use.

But it's a PITA to have to unload it all wheh I need to use the multimeter, or ratchet extensions and so on.

So I want something of a similar size, but more useable, like this (but obviously smaller)

Probably plastic, because I don't want the box itself to add too much weight.

I can hunt the internet for options, but does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?

I use a plastic tool box with rounded corners and lift-out trays. It's a good compromise between losing stuff in a soft bag versus a metal box beating the cr@p out of the boot space,

That could work. Do you have a link or picture?

Peli make very high quality polymer tool chests and flight cases, but you will likely need to sit down when you look at the price. GT Line are slightly more affordable (and available on Amazon) though still very far from cheap.

If you could put up with a conventional flight case/suitcase style box then your options open up considerably, but no drawers.

It was the Peli drawer thing that got me thinking about a change, but it's actually a fair bit bigger than I need, I think.

I've yet to come up with a better solution for an emergency kit than a bag. It squished and stuffs into places a box doesn't go.

As an aside my workshop is 50m from the drive, so fed up with lugging assorted boxes and stuff I bought this.

The quality isn't great, but you can pack loads in. Ideal for occasional home use.

Which is why I use one, but I'm sure there has to be a better compromise between size/shape and useability.

i've recently been made aware of the milwaukee rucksacks - these look great but are jolly expensive.

I think they're overkill/over size for what I want.

This X-tools box is a good size to be stashed away in the boot and is a good mix of sturdy and lightweight.

I've got a few T-Stak boxes for various things: pretty decent, can clip together or stack (I went for a wheel base too for shuffling about the garage).
Not perfect but pretty good.
Prices vary - I've sourced some online, some Machine Mart & others....

Thanks all. I keep thinking a £10 plastic toolbox is what I need, but not quite what I'm after.

I suspect what I want doesn't exist, so it'll be a Keter plastic box or some suitably-sized plastic boxes to go inside my existing tool bag.

Failing which, I like those vertical bag styles, but I suspect they're too bog and heavy, given I don't need to lug it around a site; just stick it in the car.

All very hoity-toit. I’m still using the NCB pit fitter’s/electrician’s bag I nicked from Gascoine Wood pit twenty years ago. It is getting a bit tired now, wish I could find another.
