Find Me Some Dumbbells

Trying to locate a non-expensive set (pair) of cast iron dumbbells 20 - 25 KG similar to these from Argos.

They all got very expensive.

I bought 2 x 15kg hex for £70 something a few years ago.
Great but expensive.

I’ve been looking for months and either sold out everywhere or ludicrous prices.
eBay have used sets of 20s for about £150 a pair plus postage or collection.
Pre lockdown you couldn’t give gym stuff away, the sold prices tell that story. You’d have paid about £15 for the same set.

Once gyms reopen all that stuff will flood back into the market.

I recently sold my home gym stuff for what I thought was a reasonable price. I didn't expect the sheer torrent of enquiries I got and I sold them in about 2 minutes. I definitely under-sold them I think now

Wait until the gyms re-open, there will be loads then, its virtually impossible to buy anything now without paying a massive premium. I need 1" weight plates and they are going for £120 for 2x20kg plates! Luckily I did my home gym just before lockdown, got some adjustable dumbbells (awesome) for £80 - they are now £200 for one!

Look on Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree. You don't need shiny new dumbbells.

I picked up a pair of 22.5kg hex DBs for £40 just before lockdown!

If you can get close to 1.5:1 for £:kg then you're doing well. 1:1 would be a bargain.

Feel your pain. I’ve been trying to get a pair of 10kgs for a while just for a light workout but silly prices. Going to just wait for the gyms to re open, I’m sure it won’t be long.

My wife had a spare bodypump style barbell and plates. Think it was about £40 new. We advertised it a couple of weeks into lockdown for £35 and it went mental. Hundreds of messages, lots of them begging, offers to pay double etc.

We could have sold them for £100 easily. Went to a lady my wife knew from a FB fitness group who did really need them though.

It's mental isn't it? I probably got around 30 messages within an hour of advertising it. I agreed to sell to the first guy who came over immediately, yet there were people offering £50-£100 more than I sold it for, and some people were even quite abusive when I wouldn't sell to them . I still sold it to the first guy for the agreed price as I would have been pissed off to make a 40 mile round trip only to find the price had gone up.

I wouldn't care but the very same gear I was selling was in stock in Argos!

So I managed to order these at around 8pm last night so if I had to guess that might be when any new stock of weights gets added, so between 7 - 8pm might be a good time to re-check availability?

Thanks for that, Digger. Sadly my post code isn’t available and click/collect is too distant. Good shout on the order times though for those who can get them. I found some old car batteries which must be 10kg each, may have to improvise lol.
