As the car arrived today I thought I would start a thread so here it is. It’s the arctic silver car recently advertised at DK Engineering, 2 owners, 26k miles and a full history. It is immaculate and flew through the usual meticulous inspection by Neil Bainbridge. A late 1996 car (MY97) supplied to Japan and then it went to California. I have the original seats and steering wheel in boxes but we fitted new sumptuously trimmed Recaro Pole Positions and a GT1 steering wheel. Otherwise the car is standard. You can hopefully see from the photos below how different arctic is from polar silver, which was a more common (if I can say that about a GT2) colour - my RS Clubsport is polar and it is clearly a more blue hue.

The car is epic to drive - I was expecting old school massive turbo lag but it feels pretty linear. And it feels as fast as a modern GT3 or RS so it must have been a beast back in the mid 90’s. of course, you don’t have RWS and the other chassis trickery of a modern 911 and you are very aware of the weight in the rear out over the axle. Something with depth and a joy to learn.

Beautiful.

Of the various things that kicked me up the arse to get back into sports cars and, specifically 911s, was arriving at my local bike shop who were having an open day and one of these being parked out front.

I knew exactly what it was, straight away. The exposed screw heads on the arch extensions just look brutal - functional and non nonsense - and sort of make a statement about the overall car; performance first. These things still look outlandish today.

Okay, so the car in this video is 'just' a replica (belonging to another PHer of course), but I still like it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rf34n2rxzUI&t=...

Fantastic cars. One of the best looking 911's ever made. A friend has just bought a black one. Awesome cars.

Great feedback, thank you! And like many of you, it’s the memory of seeing one of these beasts in the flesh back in the day, and watching them dominate so many races in my more formative years, that lit the fire. For years I wanted one. Came close recently to a race car but I really wanted a road legal one and then this car appeared. It is almost flawless and a great testimony to the care of its previous owners. Yesterday when it arrived I was just over the moon. Here are a few more photos as some of you asked - the new Recaro PP’s are very comfortable and I love the feel of the supple, new leather trim. The original “sports” seats are going to stay in the box, as will the huge chunky original steering wheel - the GT1 wheel feels so much better to use and just looks right.

The other thing is how much more aggressively styled the GT2 is compared even to the RS Clubsport. Obviously the flared front and rear arches but even the crazy rear wing on the RS looks a little tame if that were possible, in comparison of course.

And the alarm fob reminds you the car is from the mid 1990’s as it looks like a tiny model of an ancient mobile phone smile
