Hi Guys

Just jumped into a 997.1 Turbo Cab. Absolutely love it and will be a keeper I think.

Sold my 991.1 C4S last year and although not as fast was a lot nicer sounding. I know with the NA engine there is a better sound as no turbos but can anyone recommend and exhaust mods or aftermarket.

Also I would like to upgrade the PCM unit has anyone done this and what would you recommend.

You’ll never get the n/a sound from a turbo but there are far better sounding systems than the standard, almost silent system from the likes of Kline, Capristo, Europipe and others. Topgear do a stainless system including sport cats for around a quarter of the price and they sound quite good. I’m thinking of trying one as the Kline currently fitted is very loud and has developed a leak this week.

The PCM is crap, even with Bose + subs. I had this fitted a few months ago:

Works with the MOST digital amp and Bose package with the correct adapters and retains steering wheel volume/track select etc. USB flying lead fitted into centre console and I get Apple CarPlay, waze, google maps etc when iPhone plugged in along with Spotify. It plays hi-res files from an SD stick but a little pointless in a car with so much road noise. In terms of features and sound quality it is simply light years ahead of the standard set-up.

Quite a few years ago now but I had the Europipe on my 997.1 turbo coupe and then put it on my 997.1 Turbo cab. Outstanding build quality, outstanding customer service, great sound (for a turbo) and none of the dreaded drone (which you need to be careful of particularly with a cab. Quite pricey at the time but well worth it. The actual exhaust was an engineering thing of beauty as a bonus. Certainly think the 7 turbo needs an exhaust to add a bit of audible thrill to the thrill of the speed.

On exhaust maybe go for Europipe 1 or 2 you’re welcome to listen to mine based nr Porsche Hatfield wink

Lots of AM exhaust manufacturers around claiming best cats etc when in reality made in China (no offence intended) on the cheap. When their cats disintegrate and lunch a £50k mezger engine owners may be in for a shock.

If doing again this is only mod I’d do with maybe DSC box which softens suspension in normal driving but even stiffer in corners. Reprogrammes suspension algorithm to suit UK roads more. Be a good mod on a cab but ride firmness is very subjective. I’ve found all cars since 2006 too stiff for UK roads. These are probably the only two mods I’d do again as 680PS I run at dd too quick not sure how I still have no points. With same bolt ons bolt ons our turbos we can actually easily run at 800PS But I only run this power out put on track.

Worth a chat to Ken at 9e. PM me if interested in EP1 or 2 friendly with owner of company wink

The guy who runs Europipe is one of the best. He sent me a full kit for DIY installation, including specialist tools for removing the rear bumper. Included in the box the exhaust came in (the cardboard box itself was an engineering masterpiece) was a box of Belgian chocolates to keep the other half happy whilst I spent a few hours in the garage fitting the exhaust. It really doesn’t get better than that and I got most of the exhaust cost back when I sold the car as the market realises the quality of the exhaust. He will also help with resale of the used exhaust I believe (although again this was some time ago).

Yes first class service from EP and Stef. It’s the only exhaust as far as I’m aware that is plug and play and does not need an aftermarket remap like 90% of others which throw cel errors.

Shame he doesn’t do the 50cel DFI EP for mezgers. Only 100 cel for Mezger.

TBH I like the quiet exhaust only bought EP for better flow and it works well at 800PS so very happy

And sounds how it should have left factory. Not obnoxious. Flat 6 race derived engine note with EP. People get frightened with car standing still hehe

It’s also worth having a look at the Sharkwerks x-pipe. I had one installed on my 997.2 turbo cab. A fraction of the price of the EP but the sound is awesome - tunnel runs are biblical! IIRC it cost around £1500. Admittedly the EP is a thing of sheer beauty though. I’d stick one on my wall, rather than bury it under the car.
