DB9/Virage - "No Roof Operation Possible"
Discussion
Just logging this for anyone else experiencing the same. I replaced this sensor and now the roof (my obvious issue), the ambient air temp display and air-con etc, all working fine now. A 20 minute job once you have researched the links below......and no subsequent calibration needed.
Story - I had a weakening battery and then intermittent roof operation on the Virage (db9 variant).... and then the message "no roof operation possible" came up as a permanent message. Luckily the roof was up and locked.
In parallel, the outside temperature in top right of infotainment display was no longer showing any temperature reading, just the mountain/sun symbol.
Other forum posts said this was a failure of the Ambient Air Temperature Sensor that is fitted just behind the grill, to the left of the bonnet lock looking from the front.
If this sensor fails, the car assumes that it is either too hot / too cold to operate the roof. Joining the dots, it also messes up the air con and reduces charge to the battery, leading to many flat batteries. This is a 'fail-safe' mode to prevent damaging the roof/car.
The part number is 7G3319E642-AB / AA. The last two letters are just different manufacturers I believe. Example suppler here with pic, but got mine direct from AM dealer parts section for same price of £16 - so cheap part and easy to fit.

To get to the Sensor it's necessary to take off the engine bay slam panel (top cover with nameplate), just in front of the engine proper. See the Aston1936 channel on YouTube for guidance on removal and refitting. [EVR below has some useful pics on Wiki - see his link in post below.]
Hope this helps someone and thanks to all others who provided the 'dots' that I've joined up here. Apols in advance if someone had previously done the same - not found.

I'll just blow my own trumpet here as one of my very first contributions to this forum has been this exact procedure, a year ago.
So here is a wiki, in case you need to take a quick look.
