I'm uk based and looking for a 964 manual coupe RWD.

I'm looking for a LHD since I won't be overtaking in the UK and want to use for continental European holiday trips. I also like the pedal layout better in LHD and there are more LHD examples which are usually cheaper.

We have PH and AT in the UK as main platforms - what are the European platforms and sites? All help appreciated.

I'm looking for lower price so i can spend money doing a glass out restoration. Unless I find a fair example, but even then, want to do some work.

Japan. That way you won't waste time and money on bodywork if you find the right car - exchange rate is against you at the moment though.

LHD prices are not necessarily lower than RHD, even in the UK.

Overtaking makes little difference if done correctly. In fact, I keep a RHD car in Europe and a LHD car in the UK. Tolls make no difference if you have a transponder, but parking booths require a bit of a stretch,

Mostly ragtops at the moment hehe

ETA - nice Marine Blue one near Geneva - as I'm such a nice guy, if you pay for everything, I'll go down and check it out for you?

Same here. In fact I bought one car in UK without noticing it was LHD!

There are some circumstances in UK such as a sweeping left hand bend where the sight line in a LHD is better that RHD. Turning left into busy traffic at a T junction not so much.

I have found mobile.de a good platform. Language not really a barrier and Google Translate handy at times. For modern German cars you have Teil I, Teil II and a Certificate of Conformity. I don’t know if that applies to 30 year old cars like 964. Get the car on export plates and you should be able to drive in UK while sorting out IVA etc. The 6k km VAT threshold unlikely to be an issue.biggrin It might be an idea to deal before 31 Dec.

The Nordics can be a good shout - particularly if you can find tax free cars. Three good reasons why they are often in great condition:

1. They were so expensive in these countries in the first place
2. They are predominantly used in summer
3. For reduced price 'museum' road tax, they must be preserved to the original spec

Have you tried the Porsche Germany website?

Thanks all, I'll use the websites.

Condition is a funny one and for sure it's going to be a learning curve, but I figure all 964's need work / will need some work, so figured on not paying premium for best condition since they'll need work anyway?

And out of these two, mobile.de is far more popular. Both have apps and they should have an English language option in those apps. Then there is pff.de as the biggest German Porsche forum. The level of expertise some users have is incredible and I have read about cases where users offered PPI’s and even accompanied other users when viewing cars to ensure there are no hidden pitfalls. So maybe worth signing up on that forum and asking for good indie dealers - German language skills obviously would help. wink
