Clear coat crack = DIY smart repair?
Discussion
Rear bumper with a circa 30x5cm area as above with cracks through the clear coat.
Surface is intact with no flaking, but cracks look like they may be right through the clear coat...
I was thinking that a bit of wet sanding and then some polish might be worth a go, but risks removing too much clear exposing the base coat and then I might have to consider a rattle can to apply some new clear on top which sounds like it could quickly go wrong...
Would a professional smart repair standa good chance of success or does this sort of damage lend itself to full bumper repaint?
Commonly associated with impact damage. If on the top of the bumper often a result of impact on the rear face causing the top to flex upwards.
Usually all the way through to the plastic of the bumper & you'll often see whitish stress lines on that too.
Sand back to sound surface & refinish as required.
