I'm currently entering the fag end of my company vehicle lease. It's time to think about what's next...

Current vehicle is a crew cab Transit Custom Sport. It's ok, but I'm ready for a bit more refinement. Since I ordered the van my patch has changed to include Scotland. I like Scotland, but I'm seeing more remote sites where decent 4wd would be useful.

My preferred option at this stage is a Ford Ranger.

However, I am also running a new service which is seeing me on more rooftop sites, which tend to be in cities. Parking the van is already an issue. The Ranger is nearly as high as the van, and a bit wider and longer. Not ideal.

I don't want a car as I have no desire to be thumped by tax.

So from works point of view I need a vehicle nearly as practical as a van, easy to park, with decent 4 wheel drive. From my point of view I want decent weight to tow, 5 seats, and refinement with usual creature comforts.

I think I have to accept either bigger than ideal or not 4wd. But any options that I have not thought of?

Can you get a VW Caddy Maxi with a second row of seats and 4-motion?

They are only ~1.9m high, 4wd and fairly car-like to drive.

The Caddy is about to have a model change with a whole new generation coming late 20-early 21.
The Peugeot Rifter looks good.

With a payload of under 1000kg, wouldn't the OP get clobbered on the tax for a Caddy?
