Stroke rehab

A few years ago I saw a documentary about a dedicated stroke clinic in England which evidently worked wonders with people coming back from a stroke, getting them to walk again etc.

Anyone remember the name of the clinic?

I seem to remember it was outside London as there were some shots of the grounds, which I doubt were in St John's Wood.

It's for my mum; she's had two strokes in succession and really needs very good rehab otherwise there could be severe deterioration in her capabilities and independence

I was only using the powers of Google to help. I hope you find it. You could try searching for references to the programme through Google - that might turn up an old listing that would name the centre.

Happy to have a crack at finding it for you if you can give as much information as possible - e.g. what channel the programme was on and roughly when.

Ask the staff in her local hospital stroke unit.

I presume that she was admitted and treated when she had the strokes.

A friend of mine went to the Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital after breaking her back. It's down the road from Stoke Mandeville. It's 10 years ago now but they did amazing things for her.

Yes, she's in Charing Cross at the moment. No one can visit which is horrendous both for her and for us

Try https://www.stroke.org.uk They have all sorts of resources available and will understand the importance of getting rehab underway quickly, although surely her consultant will already be addressing that?

Thanks Bluesgirl. Rehab is underway indeed but this is for when she gets discharged.

It looks like much of the rehab will take place in the hospital so this would be to supplement once she's sent home. If they do visits in a covid environment, that is

Yes, I have just looked him up foiled, that is exactly the kind of area I was looking for (obviously he won't be doing the actual rehab, more directing it)

How would one get referred I wonder?

Found it! The Rafael Hospital. Though a bit of googling suggests the architect of the place left under a cloud a couple of years ago

Just to update, it's very (very) slow going. The occupational therapists and physios have been very sweet, I can't tell how good they are at their job but they are good to my mum. I just worry that she will lose motivation as she realises how long and hard rehab will be - then it becomes self defeating
