Isn’t twitter rather twisted?
Discussion
I’m on it as I work in education so quite a few interesting people to follow. But it’s pretty f
ked up, as a platform. It’s the whole echo chamber thing, and very polarised views. But worse than that is all the nobbers with extreme views, if you say something dissenting, they block you.
So they continue with their views (could be garbage) and just block anyone who challenges if they don’t like it. Sometimes there’s a twitter storm in a teacup of a load of t
ts who are just t
ts, but the ones who routinely block are the
s like Owen Jones, or the ‘network’ type ones like #chinesemathsnetwork (I just made that up) who have a particular stance. Usually the ones with lots of followers, I think they feel they’re too big to fail and don’t need you. They just spout their s
t and if they are called out on any of their cherry-picked facts, block.
I’m not saying it’s a problem for me as I hardly post but I can’t see the end game working out really.

I've always enjoyed Twitter! If it pisses you off, unfollow people who are into subjects that annoy you, and follow people that are into other stuff.
Took me a while to learn how to use it. I actually use twitter for music stuff only, and that's all I see on there. This feels like it's enough to keep me honest, without being enough to drive me nuts. But the relative percentages will be different for everyone, and exposing yourself to annoying opinions is not necessarily a valuable goal - a hard limit of 0% annoying content is quite reasonable. (Just because I'm careless with my sanity, that doesn't mean you have to do the same with yours!) It's probably best to just fiddle around until you find something that works for you.
(But, generally: if you do this, O reader, which I recommend you do, please remember, if you're then ever tempted to mock somebody for referring to "self care", that you did it

Had to google him. "Activist." There's your answer.
Owen Jones was born a weapons-grade C***'. There's your answer.Edited by dazwalsh on Saturday 27th June 01:31
It’s an absolute cesspit. I’ve been unfortunately drawn into it during lockdown out of curiosity.
You can see why it’s influencing elections and the likes with all the bots.
I also wonder what some of these people are doing with their lives tweeting utter b
ks all day everyday, can’t be good for your mental health

Twitter is no different to Pistonheads most of the time.
This is it really. If you spent your life through the bubble of PistonHeads you'd have a certain view of the world as you would if you lived it through the bubble of Twitter.
Remember as well the controversial stuff rises to the top which is why you tend to see it more often so assume that's what it's all like.
I am on it in a professional sense only and I limit all my posts and interactions to just talking about technical stuff. But I agree it is a nightmare.
All of the people on my feed are there so I can keep close to what is happening in my field but some of the posts in the last few weeks are quite sinister. Apparently silence on certain things is now suspect and unless you express support for certain movements you can find yourself marginalised.
I find myself looking forward to retirement.

We have all the social media for work. I don't get involved. I have Insta and Twitter. Twitter is becoming very political and very polarised it it's views. If you post anything, there will always be some frothing keyboard warrior ready to post an 'argument'.
Lots of idiots I've blocked, usually the 'I'm not racist, but...' or 'you need to educate yourself...' and 'you're clearly not very clever...'. Never mind I manage to successfully run a business and employ people while you sit at home in your pants scouring the internet for things to virtue signal about.
Facebook I ditched years ago. I can't deal with IQ level on there.

Twitter is what you make of it.
If you follow anyone vaguely political then you’re going to get a stream of nobheads who think that their left/right view is the only valid opinion. Ignore reading the comments as it will drive you up the wall.
Because of the character limit it means a lot of shouting to get your point across quickly so there’s precious little reasoned debate and I wish Twitter would sort out all the bots that infest it.
I tend to follow stuff that not only interests me but tries to be humorous as well.
Grumpy Skeletor and RAF Luton are the latest that tend to brighten my morning.
