I took my iMac home with me when the Coronavirus kicked off and quite liked having it there so I'm not planning on bringing it back into the office.

Instead I bought https://www.apple.com/uk-business/shop/product/HMU... for the office and a new keyboard and mouse and a Macbook stand.

Current set up in the office looks like;

It's not a huge problem but when I come into the office I put the Macbook in the stand and plug the USB-C cable into it.

Ideally I'd like a stand/dock where I can just slot the Macbook in with the dock already connected to the screen.

https://www.brydge.co.uk/products/vertical-dock?va...

Is this what I need? Or are there better or cheaper options?

We use these sort of things at work.

Just plug the USB-c connector into the right port and away you go.

I just use a cheap USB-C 'dongle' thing with mine (has HDMI, 2x USB type A and SD/microSD slots). There are multiple Chinese brands on Amazon, probably all the same underlying design.

Works great. I initially bought it for my Surface Go for when I was taking it on holidays but have been using it with the Macbook Pro from work over the lockdown.

No big issues really, just that the (non-detachable) connector cable is a bit short which is more an issue with the Surface than the Mac. Also, you still need to plug your charger into another USB-C port to keep the Mac charged but I know you can get versions with power passthrough for a single port solution.

Also, it gives video output when plugged into my Samsung phone, though not USB ports.

Can't really complain for the £30 or so I spent on it.

I use one of these with my 2019 MBP 15" - https://www.caldigit.com/ts3-plus/ - which supports 85W charging of the MacBook as well as useful ports such as optical audio out.

The screen charges the Macbook and I rarely need to plug anything else in so it was a stand I needed rather than a hub.

I went with https://www.brydge.co.uk/products/vertical-dock?va... in the end so instead of having to plug the screen into the Macbook every time I will just need to slot it into the stand and away I go.

It's an expensive way to avoid plugging a cable in but should neaten up my desk.
