Tradesman been charged £80 for bank transfer from parents.

Hi, hoping someone can advise as I have never heard of this.

My parents attempted to transfer a couple of grand to a tradesman’s bank account, but it would only let them transfer £1000 due to the account type.

When he has received the £1000 he says he has been charged £80! It is a business account.

Is this possible? I have used the guy before and he has been great - I don’t think he is trying it on and he hasn’t asked for the £80.

I didn’t find anything meaningful through google.

The only thing I could possibly see it being would be a faster payment charge, but certainly not at the level quoted.

I would hope there was some small print on the screen advising the senders of the charge, but they missed it. Win to bank... but he could try to claim it back citing first offence etc.

Did they send it from a non U.K. bank account and/or pay him in currency?

Would usually be between 30p and 50p for an electronic transfer.

Eh ? The sending bank would have no idea that the receiving bank was going to charge their client £80. So there would be nothing on screen.

A charge as high as £80 for rsimply receiving a faster payment credit of £1,000 seems highly unlikely. Perhaps the charge was for something else and just happened to be passed on the same day the credit from the parents was credited to the account ?

Fair point. Same question to the recipient - can banks just help themselves without notice?

Get him to ask the bank to explain the charge. On the facts presented there's been an error.
