Hi I recently bought a Ford Focus ST Line X and have fully machine polished the car but there’s some odd marks on the bonnet that won’t come off. Does anyone know what this is bearing in mind it’s a brand new car. Thanks

This would be better off in the Bodywork & Detailing section. If you ask the mods they might move it across for you. Pretty sure you'll get the answers you need there.

Can you feel any edges if you run your finger over them?
Does look like bad water staining which may require a better cutting polish.

I can’t feel anything when I touch the bonnet so I don’t think it’s the lacquer. I might try and wet sand that area.

I can’t be sure but they look like water spots to me. What pad and polish combo are you using? I use Koch Chemie FSE to get rid of stubborn water spotting after cleaning. If that doesn’t work then you might have to ramp up the polish and pad to allow a better cut.

Had a similar problem on one of our Family cars and koch chemie Fse would not touch them.
I think it happened as water beads sat on the paint after a shower and the sun baked through them, red is a nightmare for this.
A local body shop that painted the car machine polished it.

I used the Menzerna compound pad with the Menzerna 400 compound.

I’ve tried most detailing things on it and they won’t go

That’s odd as that combo should have shifted stubborn water spots. I’d be tempted to get it back to the dealer if it’s brand new. It could be an issue with the paint rather than the clear coat.

That’s what I’m thinking too maybe the paint reacted or something or the panel wasn’t clean when painted. I think I might wet sand that area and see if that removes them

Wet sanding seems a bit drastic if it’s brand new. The dealership won’t want to know after you’ve taken sandpaper to it, although one could argue they might not know if you polish out the sanding marks.

^^This. If it's a brand new car surely it's safest (in terms of warranty etc.) to just let the garage do it.

That’s a good point. I did a full wet sand on my Mk1 Focus a few weeks ago and it turned out alright but seen as this is a new car I might take it to the dealer and see what they say
