Remove 2008 Vantage wing mirrors How to guide?
Discussion
Found myself with that pesky flaking/corrosion problem on my Vantage wing mirrors. Thought that I'd fix it myself (following rancidswan excellent guide).
Discovered that the corrosion is more extensive than I thought (see pics)

So I reckon it's probably best to remove them and do the job properly.
Anyone know how much of a job this is? Anyone know of a "how to" video or photo guide?

Get it acid dipped, lightly blasted and then powered coated in satin black. Should cost you £30 or so from your local powder coaters.

I've just gone through the strip down and blast route with my door mirrors. The guide that Jonny provided a link to is good, but I found a couple of tricky bits along the way. Firstly step 5 removing the torx bolt in the window channel, access to this is really tricky as it's buried in the channel and other parts of the door furnitoure prevent you coming at it straight. In my case it wasn't helped by the fact some c@ck womble had been in there before me and done such a bad job of reassembly they not only managed to cross thread one of the bolts they also rounded the heads off for good measure. I had to resort to drilling the head off on one side. Bearing in mind my car had only ever been serviced by main dealers up to the point I owned it, goes to show the level of shoddy work we've all come to know and expect. There were also a couple of missing bolts that attached the arm to the door and silicone sealant liberally spready everywhere.
Then the removal of the wiring from the connector block, step 9, this was probaly my incompetance as I couldn't get the tecnique right for extracting the terminals from the connector housing and ended up breaking a couple of the wires. I finaly magaed to track down the correct connector terminals to replace these and have a few spare if anyone needs some.
Blasting and painting at the local powdercoater was £26 and I went for a satin black finish which seems close enough to factory paint, though will hopefully last longer.
Reassembly is fairly straightforward, mine now has stainless steel bolts and a healthy application of marine grade grease to the fasteners, I even sprayed some Bilthamber Dynax UC inside the arms and the exposed part of the arm that sits behind the door card, belt and braces to prevent future corrosion.
