First post from long time lurker

Ive got to get myself a work/dog car as ive piled the miles on my S3 since the lockdown. The PCP agreement runs out on the S3 in october so the car could become the replacement, temporarily or long term. I will be buying outright. We have an holiday upcoming and could really do with the space.
what are peoples thoughts on these German mile munchers.

Have you considered a Volvo V60? Probably be far better spec'd for the money. Get yourself a 5 cylinder diesel lump and it will be extremely reliable.

Same, I’m trying to be sensible though also I would prefer an auto and an Alfa with an auto would be wrong

I have just sold my bmw f11 530d. Having tested the 520d and 530d. There was a big difference in performance but I regularly achieved 55 mpg sat at 70 on the motorway. The 6 cylinder was noticeably smoother.

Would still have my BMW if I was still doing the 500 miles a week.

If you're looking at the Passat the Mondeo is the better car especially in Titanium spec:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202...

Or the XF Premium Luxury

When it comes to the E Class/5 Series I'd always pick the 3.0d they're nicer units & not far off their 2.0d brethren

Ive just bought an Alfa V6 Sportwagon with a Q system auto. Yet to explore its potential though...

We have a V60 and TBH I would rather have either the 520d or the E class instead.

It's a good car. Ultra reliable, cheap to run, great seats but it just seems dated compare to the 2 above especially inside.
Also it's lacking dynamically, vague steering being one issue.

Boot is also compromised with the sloping back.
Not as big as the old Mondeo we had or the Avensis estate.

Not sure if the newer ones (ours is a 13 reg) is better inside. Think they did an update at some point.

Lusso spec? cream isn't for me but looks a nice car, I'd like a red TI spec 3.2.

I haven’t even seen it in the flesh, it has yet to have the hand of the dvla waft over it to make it a uk car. Which might happen sooner or later...
But yeah, looks nicely specced, even has Bose tweeters but the head unit is suspect (?)
