How long is it taking to receive new V5 due to COVID?

I’ve just brought a Range Rover and stupidly sent the logbook in the post as didn’t realise you could now do this online and have it returned in a week! My issue is I don’t want to drive the car until I have the new logbook so I can transfer my private number plate on it. Just wanted to see how long it has taken for everyone else that recently brought used cars?
Do I send on the new keepers slip with the V62 and V750 or Patiently wait for V5 and transfer new plates online...

I had done it online. Waited for 30 days. Status showed it had been sent and delivered.
Called dvla. Told I haven't received. Took another 15 days to receive it.

Mine came extremely quickly - only took a week. That was last month.

I bought my used car in April. Nothing after 1 month so I sent off the green slip and V62. Still nothing and finally managed to get through on the phone to DVLA this afternoon. Apparently the V5 section was shut down in March and has only just re-opened and they are dealing with the backlog in chronological order. Strangely, when I changed the number plate on my other car 2 weeks ago, the new V5 came within a couple of days...

I bought a car in May and it arrived in about a week.

Plate retention, sale of new car, purchase of new car and finally plate on new car has involved 3 new V5s in the last 3 weeks or so.

All done online, all with V5 at my door within 3 days.

My wife is in the same position. Retention certificate and new V5 for the old car came in about five days, but no sign of the V5 for the new car after three weeks. We found out yesterday when she picked the new car up that the taxation class had been changed from 'disabled' when she bought it so the reg couldn't be transferred online. Could this be the reason for the delay?

If you've posted it, it'll now go to the end of the backlog from when they stopped processing mail around mid-march.

They've restarted in the last couple of weeks, but i cant imagine DVLA will hurry themselves to catch up, so expect it to take months.

Does the new keeper slip not have the V5C document reference number on it?

If it does, you could do it online now anyway.

Yes, all postal stuff is subject to a backlog now at DVLA
