My iPad suddenly stopped charging this morning.

The strange thing is that if I use the original power adaptor or my MacBook one, the iPad won't take on any charge at all, and the image on the screen suggests that a power cable is not plugged in.

If I do the same with my 60w power bank, the iPad take on enough charge to get to the home screen and then registers as having 1% battery left, but then is no longer charging.

I seem to be able to do this as many times as I like, so am able to access the OS but obviously have limited time once in there to do anything! I have tried resetting the device.

Has anyone had similar?

Are you using the same lead for all the testing, or a different one for each power adapter?

Each power adaptor has its own lead, but I have tried all three with each of the adaptors.

All combinations charge my MacBook fine.

Have you checked the port for any dirt in there - sometimes pocket fluff can cause issues.

other than that, you might have to make a booking with an Apple Genius at an Apple Store (if you can find an open one) and get them to plug in their diagnostics tools.

Yes, I've checked that thanks.

It just seems strange that the 60w power bank will bring it back to life and the original charge won't.

When my iPad stopped charging, it turned out to be the cable. Bought a heavy duty cable off Ebay and it's been fine ever since.

My old 9.7” Pro would only charge from the original cable or an Anker one. None of the others would work, but we’re fine on the other iPads and iPhones in the household. Weird,

Regarding the genius bar appointment. The online booking tool is great, but the appointments are like rocking horse poo. I was able to book via a partner "Stormfront" and they offered over the phone diagnostics (free) and if it's hardware, they offer a mail in service (with fees) which they can repair, and if there's any warranty, they'll honour it under the exact same terms of Apple. Am only recommending them from personal experience, if you can't go directly into an Apple Store / Genius Bar appointment

I had an old iPad mini and it would only charge with the original plug, as soon as you turned the screen on, it stopped charging but did get a tiny bit of charge with the screen off. Are you sure you've used the iPad plug and not the one for another Apple device?

Yes, but the iPad charger doesn’t even give the little bit of charge, it’s a more powerful power bank that does that.

Just to close this off in case anyone else is having the issue, it appears that Apple broke something in firmware (mines running 13.4.1).

Updating will fix it apparently, but I can't do that because I'd need at least 50% battery or to be plugged into power which I can't do.

It will have to be a Genius Bar appointment unfortunately. On the upside, by the time I actually get one they may have a clearer idea of how to fix the problem!
