Been trying to find out more about this car. YR17XXU. It says "mileage unreadable" at last MOT test. How is that possible? Car apparently has 12,000 miles but I've run a few free checks and one said mileage is 36k odd.

Can anyone find out a bit more? I'm car hunting for my daughter's first car. The seller seems a bit robotic in her replies so I'm not getting good vibes. But can't check properly!

Any doubt move on to the next one

It’s not rare or unusual and the only issue is you might have to drive an extra 15/20 minutes to another one.

I could understand putting the legwork in with something rare and unusual your looking to purchase but it’s a mass produced car any flags raised move on

If your gut feeling is that either the seller or the car is dodgy or hiding something, I’d trust it. There are several thousand other Audi A1s for sale, among which will be the right one.

I know I know! But we have a budget of about £8k and I'm trying to do my bit and find the newest low mileage one we can get. This one is much newer and less miles..... I think I'm too wary sometimes - you know - someone could just need the money and sell cheap! But something isn't right with this one

And just as mystifying, if I haven’t got something wrong, you can’t search Audi A1 on Autotrader!

Maybe the owner’s powers reach beyond just making the mileage of that car...disappear!? yikes

I rather suspect it hasn't actually been put in for an MOT yet and has the automatic CV-19 extension applied to it. This is listed as an advisory after checking the MOT status.

ETA: hence why the mileage isn't showing up.

Our Volvo has had the 6 months Covid extension applied and mileage comes up as mileage of last MOT which is 17k miles lower than it's present mileage.

Last MOT was June 19.

Extended to Dec 20.

OP, if you're in doubt move on.
Lots of A1s and wouldn't you rather find an honest A1 rather than concentrate too much on getting the newest you can find.

If it is a lot cheaper than others of the same age and mileage, AND you get bad vibes from the seller, I would honestly advise you to not pursue it.

You’re of course right when you say that bargains do crop up, and there could be a genuine reason for the low price, but that’s when you need to have absolute faith in the seller. If the car’s price is exceptionally low, and responses to questions from the seller are vague or evasive, it’s a big warning sign.

It's on the PH classifieds ! I hadn't considered the covid situation and mileage.

Mileage unreadable means what it says, most likely a fault with the instrument cluster.

I’d find another car too.

According to regit, the only MOT that car has is the 6 months grace Covid-19 extension... So that's why the mileage is "unreadable".

You can check on regit.cars

No, like has been said it has not yet been presented for an MOT and hence the mileage has not been recorded on the 'system'.

OP, if you're concerned its too cheap then run a check through VCheck.uk as they check salvage auction status.

Think the seller needs to wake up, I think you've got something to say to her

As above, this would have been its first MOT but as the six month extension was given it never attended the MOT station hence mileage is shown as "unreadable" or "00".

Same goes for many cars of the same age.

Exactly. In this check, it's worded a bit better:

Edit: Seem it's had quite a reduction in price:

The op is to be applauded for giving the vendor free advertising. I expect the car will be gone by the time the op gets round to having a look at it.
