Porsche 911 Carrera 2S

Afternoon all,

Having had the Porsche for a few weeks now I thought I'd write up a little note on my ownership experience so far and will continue to update, good or bad.

I will post a picture after this post.

Why did I buy it?

Having had an e92 M3, fast C classes and generic warm saloons and hatches I wanted to buy something that was designed to be exactly what it was; not just a 3 series with a big engine.

Opinions after my first few weeks.

It's nice. Goes well. Feels tight, able and fun to drive. It's always an event and for these reasons I am loving it. It looks great and I find myself looking back at it when walking away.

Something my boss said to me "It looks smart in all instances. Meetings. Weddings. Funerals."

However, ownership anxiety is high. Mine has had not just the IMS/RMS replaced but the gearbox also so little to no worries there. Borescope checked as part of a PPI, FSH and inspected within an inch of its life, this still hasn't stopped me listening intently to every odd sound of which this makes a lot.

Gearing is odd too. 2nd to 3rd drops the RPM just off the high power band. Yet in other gears it doesn't.

It's 15 years old so has a rattle or two and is noticeably a step back in age.

Bluetooth streaming is needed!

Looks really nice, had mine for 5 years, was driving it every day (working from home put pay to that) and still love it every time I get in for a run.

I think your boss is right and that's exactly why 911's are as popular as they are. Still a a great drivers car but a little more under the radar.

The constant worry will pass as you learn to live with the car more and get to know it's quirks but, as with any car, have a little money aside just in case!

They get grumpy when they're not driven so enjoy! Car looks lovely btw

Thank you. I only work 2 miles from home but this in itself presents another issue in that it barely warms up before I get to work. Because of this I find myself in the wife’s Golf most days.

This has been pampered according to the service record but I am going to have it serviced even though it has only done 2000 miles since it’s last.

I was looking at Maserati GT’s but the 911 became a chosen favourite owing to the unstated presence.

I am sure it will pass. I keep reminding myself that it is a 15 year old car.

Having doubled its annual mileage in the 4 weeks I’ve owned it I am certainly driving it more than it has been.

Nothing yet. It has PASM, a GT Exhaust, BOSE Wingback seats and red belts and stitching so there isn’t much I want to change and like its originality. I think the only thing I may consider would be is an Apple car play head unit but for c£1,000 I can hold off for that. With that said I am unaware of any modifications that may sit well with the car so certainly not adverse.

Would love to know people’s views but I am not really a fan of the wheels. They need a refurb but I have a thought of leaving this until I need new tyres (some time yet) and changing the wheels to something I prefer.

This was when home and whilst changing to my private plate. Now put back on but doesn’t it look good without it!

Ah, one thing I am keen on is possibly a re-trimming of the wheel in alcantara. For no reason other than the feel. The current wheel is like new.

Congrats on the car. I have a v similar 2005 C2s. Had it for 5 years. They are still quick by modern standards in my POV and are ageing very well. I had my steering wheel, gearlever and handbrake re-trimmed by Jack at Royal Steering Wheels. Fatter, Thumb-rests and some perforated leather. Really lifted the cabin. Would recommend.

Just be careful with battery drainage if you don't use it regularly! I have lost track of the number of times I have had to get the AA out to get entry into the car (the bonnet release is electric so useless when you have a flat battery!)

I prefer the crab/lobster claw type wheels on a 997. That said, I had a Boxster S with the wheels you have and they were painted gloss black with a silver rim line and looked really good. Might be a cheaper way of upgrading the look.

Looks very clean for the age and mileage. I have a 2006 C4S, which is just coming up on 80,000 miles.

Mine has various sleeper mods, but two I can highly recommend are a Numeric shifter, and DSC PASM controller, probably in that order.

Have you got a picture and rough price of the re-trimming?

I think that I will use it regularly enough to keep the battery conditioned. Trying not to use it is the issue at the moment

Yes, I very much like these too.

I hate black wheels on a car so what ever I decide they'll be silver.

Mine has the short shifter from new and I love the gear change. What does the DSC PASM controller do?

r.e. wheels - I think the crab claws are the best looking oem wheel for that shape. There's just something about them that works. Suppose if you're going aftermarket or buying a new set you want as light as possible (perhaps not quite as expensive as carbon tho ).

Another big mod people opt for is the mechanical LSD from what I've read (if it doesn't already have one) as well as a few choice parts from the GT3 range that don't comprise the everyday usability too much.

Wheel in alcantara would look nice.

Edit: Beaten to it with the crab claw suggestion.
