In my home office, I have 2 computers, and one monitor. I do have them both connected to the same monitor, but its not one of these new fancy ones where you can treat it as 2 seperate screens, even though it is an ultrawide.

I have a USB switch for switching keyboard, mouse and webcam to both computers as and when and I can use the monitor controls to switch sources, but it's fiddly and clunky to do.

So I want to be able to remotely control my desktop (personal) machine from my work machine so I don't have to keep switching, and I can keep my eye on the work stuff while I'm dipping in and out of personal tasks.

Currently I'm using Teamviewer. It seems to work well enough, the performance is good, but the issue I have is, the password changes each time I boot up my personal machine, presumably for security reasons.

I'm just wondering if there's any alternatives I should be looking at, or have I got the best one? I was more thinking of a setup that runs permanently and has the same password each time for ease of use, I have tried VNC in the past which I think did what I am after, but the performance I seemed to remember was quite poor.

Use TeamViewer. You can setup the remote PC to use a fixed password, and then save that in the client of the other PC so you can just connect with one click.

Or the built in Remote Desktop, assuming they are Windows, and the correct W10 version smile

Also consider a second monitor and Mouse Without Borders. Lovely little bit of software that kills the need for a second keyboard and mouse.

Google's Remote Desktop add-in for Chrome is really good too.

Apologies; I meant to say of course ‘assuming they *are* windows.

But I’m currently RDP’d to a Linux desktop from iOS, so really it works on everything.

Yep am on Windows 10. Work machine is 1809, personal is the 2004 update.

Cant see an option in Teamviewer to fix the password, am using free version, but will have another look tomorrow.

The Chrome desktop thing is OK but I had a few issues, can’t exactly remember what now though, will have another look.

Cheers all smile

I use VNC to control a headless Mac in the house (from both Windows and Mac machines). Works OK for me, but don't use it for watching video etc.

I've used VNC, Google Chrome AddOn and Splashtop which all work OK. I think all the cool kids use Parsec these days. While orientated for gaming it doesn't have to be used for that, but because that was its primary directive it has ultra low latency and high quality which is why it's gaining traction.

If either is 10 Pro as opposed to Home, you can use that as a remote desktop server, and remote to it from the other one.

That's the best performing software remote desktop option I'm aware of for Windows, and is built in.

Good shout, the desktop machine is a Pro and the work is Enterprise.

This also sounds interesting, thanks!
