Moving from UK to Melbourne fairly soon, thinking of bringing an '88 3.2 Carrera. Which body style suits Oz conditions best? Unfortunately A/C is still not that common in UK models for this year...

Coupe will be worth the most over here by a long way. You will need A/C in QLD/NT or anywhere tropical. Make sure you have owned it for 12 months to bring in as a personal import.

Also you only need an oz driving licence after you have been made a permanent resident ie 2 years after arriving so although you can have speeding fines no points will be racked on your licence in theory anyway!

Wish I'd known this as I was told after 3 months I needed an oz licence...

Hi, thanks for the tips. I have monitored the UK market for 911's of the 87-89 vintage and have gathered a few impressions. Firstly, the supply of coupe's seems far smaller than of targas. Finding a good coupe is not easy at all. There even seem to be more cabrios available than coupe's which is remarkable. Secondly, if (as I do) you want a "discreet" colour, e.g. a dark metallic, these are rare compared to the full-on Guards Red, GP White and so on. Clearly the 80's yuppie flash Porsche image wasn't just a myth! So, I'll have to look hard for a nice discreet coupe'. Actually, I have a sneaking suspicion that when these are taken in p/x they are immediately passed on in the trade via middle-men who ship them to Oz for sale there, with members of the UK public cut out of the action!
