Netgear Orbi ?
Discussion
Hi All,
I'm looking for some help and advice.
I have a summer house at the end of our garden, approx 40 metres (130feet) from the main house which i would like to get internet access to. Having done some looking around this afternoon at what options are available i stumbled across the Netgear Orbi outdoor unit. A couple of YouTube videos later and it appears it would possibly do the job.
I was wondering if anyone else had any experience of these devices and if i am going to need anything else. I have Sky broadband which i think means i am stuck with their router. The router is located at the back of the house which backs on to the garden so would it be best for me to purchase an indoor satellite from Netgear which would connect to the Sky router (the Sky router does not have an option to set to 'modem only' so I cannot use a 3rd party router). The internal satellite would then connect to the Outdoor Orbi that will be connected to the Outside of the Summer house.
In terms of alternative options, running a cable isn't feasible and the summer house is on its own electrical circuit so any Ethernet over power options are also ruled out.
Anybody else who has experience of a similar challenge your advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan

I have Orbi SRR60 and it runs off my BT home hub. It takes the internet from the homehub and I just turned off all the homehub's WiFi signals. The Orbi runs in AP mode. That's all the setup you need.
The range of the Orbi is incredible, I'll bet if you put either an indoor or outdoor Orbi satellite vaguely near your external wall it will serve the summerhouse well.
Eg
Failing this tactic, I'd buy a 4G Mifi blob and a dedicated data only sim and use this just for the summerhouse if you have a 4G signal. Depends how rural you are.

Thank you for your help. That is what i was wondering was whether the Netgear product would run as an access point. Do you happen to know whether to connect the outdoor Orbi it requires a satellite as well or would connect to the SRR60?
