Text from my barber.
Price now £30 (was £15), dry cut only, no shaving, two barbers working (was 6) no waiting in the shop, no appointments, (first come first served) no coffee, no magazines, no cash payments.
Gave him a call. they open at 8am, people have already said that they will be queing from 6.

Wife's haidressers has a waiting list of over 1000 for appointments.

It'll calm down soon enough. Barbers here reopened a month or so back as appointment only, I went a couple of weeks later (admittedly mid afternoon on a week day) when they no longer needed appointments, nobody waiting and one guy came in as he was about half way through mine.

Just done my own. Second time since lockdown. First time was with a rechargeable beard trimmer so bit of a ball ache but used a corded clipper today. Will continue doing my own for the foreseeable future.
Don't really want to risk going to barbers, especially with the water spray guns, shared tools etc.

While starting to go bald in your early 20s is quite traumatic, 20 years later (after doing yourself with clippers all that time) you can do the maths and think that you've saved ~£4,000, and all that time and hassle and awkward smalltalk having to go to get your hair cut...

Having loyally used the same barber every four weeks for the last 30 years, and having continued to use them after moving miles away, I feel a bit let down by the price rise TBH. It might be the excuse that I was looking for to use a local barber who charges half as much.

Ours opens Monday - she contacted me and Mrs DS and we must be pretty well first in. I can't wait as my hair is pretty well uncontrollable now, I have to soak it through to get it flattened every morning - it grows fast and thick.
It's a curious thing - this is the longest my hair has ever been since about 1972 I bet, and (pandemics notwithstanding!) is the longest it will ever be for the rest of my life. I might spike it up like Vivian in The Young Ones for the weekend.

A barber in my city has gone up to £19, previously they were £14. Now, there is an extra charge for foil shaves and skin fades. This irritates me more than anything else, why should one haircut cost more than another? Some 
could come in looking like a member of the Hair Bear Bunch, take a hour to cut and pay the same as someone who took ten minutes. A good barber could do my hair with a skin fade in 10 minutes, but the other blokes were st and it would take them longer. I guess they are charging to try and put people off having foils and fades.
Cash payments are still ok, in fact they still won't be accepting payment by any other method. Unusual indeed.
I struggle to see where the value in the price increase goes. Obviously they'll be paying extra for masks, gloves, aprons etc but they will be clearing a huge profit by charging an extra fiver per customer.
I switched to the local Turkish lads before the lockdown. Faster, cheaper, do just as good a job, much better parking and location and they don't try to make small talk when I just want my hair cut.

Same here, been doing mine with the same set of clippers for 15+ years, saved a fortune. I thought there was a run on clippers and everywhere was sold out not long ago? If that was the case then surely this mad dash to the barbers will only be shortlived as everyone else is DIY at home?My barbers has an online booking system which is brilliant. I used to hate sitting there on a Saturday afternoon waiting for a cut, hoping I'd get a barber I liked etc. Now I book a slot, normally on a work from home day and I'm there and back in an hour.
He's put his prices up by £3 but I think he's putting perpex up between chairs etc. so fair enough.
