Hi,
There seems to be a weeping type OIL leak from my STR. From what I can see it is coming from the allen bolt type screw behind the clutch cable.
Had a look at some parts lists and not sure what it is.
I assume there must be an o-ring that is failing.
Anyone know what it is, and if it is simply a job of unscrewing the allen bolt and replacing the o-ring?
Not sure whether the crankshaft or some other shaft will go clunk and fall in the sump if I remove it!
Many thanks for any advice / info.
Mike

PS: Don't know why the pic is rotated 90degrees!

Looking at this I thought it might be part no 2 or 3?

You should be able to remove it but I'm not recommending you do biggrin

Yes... that looks a likely candidate. Says it’s a plug.... so can’t imagine removing it should cause catastrophic problems!
Thanks 🙏

Weeping oil gallery plug.
Common issue on these bikes. I had to fix mine.

There are no washers/gaskets involved. It is simply a small plug with a sealant around its threads.

With the bike on its side stand no oil should come out (of the right hand plug one).
You need to remove it, clean the threads and reseal them with the recommended Threebond 1305 sealant.

Alternatively take to garage/dealer. Its an easy job.

Thanks for that! Mine seems to have the characteristics of old Meridan Triumphs.... has weeped oil from the sump gasket too and I found some sump bolts had worked loose and were finger tight... another known issue according to Google!
