20k limit - which 7 SEATER?

Evening everyone. Needing opinions please. After a 7 SEATER petrol SUV/MPV and was going to go for a 1/2 year old SMAX till our mechanic ripped.me apart and suggested most newer ford engines really aren't that good. Coming in with faults etc. Now back to square one. Love a Skoda Kodiaq but the 7 seater seems a bit out of my price range at the moment. Any suggestions gratefully received.

I'm surprised your Mechanic isn't a fan as the 2.0T has been around for ages & has proven reliable for a lot of Focus ST's Mondeo's etc.
